Bellevue, Nebraska is a small town in the United States located in the Lincoln County seat. The population was 3,452 at the 2010 census. Bellevue is part of the Omaha-Council Bluffs, IA-NE Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Bellevue was founded on December 29, 1854 by Nicholas Jobson and others as a trading post on the White River near present day Bellevue. It grew to be a small town with a population of about 300 in 1875. The townsite was surveyed and laid out by localresident George Armstrong Cram in 1876. In 1888, it became an incorporated city when all of its citizens voted to join together. Bellevue has had several Fires that have burned through its homes; however, it has not been destroyed or threatened with destruction like many other communities that have gone through this before. In 1908, it annexed neighboring Council Bluffs which made it one municipality with a total population of over 5,000 people and created downtown Bellevue as its main business district with five blocks of commercial buildings along the riverfront between Grand Avenue and Congress Street. In 1916 Bellevue built its first high school (now Old Central High School) and also opened a hospital which would become home to Sioux City Hospital after that city's incorporation into Nebraska Territory in 1912). In 1922, construction began on what would become two miles of toll road from Omaha to Kearney which would connect Nebraska's rapidly growing agriculture industry withIowa's burgeoning manufacturing sector. The road became known as "the Boulevard" because most vehicles traveling down it were driven down onto Omaha's South Side for storage or servicing businesses located there rather than going any further north or east across the Missouri River valley into Iowa City or Des Moines proper where services could be found closer to consumers. In 1954–55 Belvueland voters passed an ordinance forbidding discrimination against Negroes in public accommodations such as restaurants and stores within their borders until passage of state anti-discrimination legislation three years later allowed these types of discrimination again throughout Nebraska under new laws designed specifically for African Americans living within white jurisdictions outsideOf Topeka/Kansas City etc.). In 2002–03 Bellevue introduced an ordinance banning smoking indoors inside any building except retail businesses open before 7:00 p m., effective immediately following large gatherings (noncommercial restaurants were exempted due to their siting), after seeing similar ordinances enacted successfully by neighboring Omaha Beach Village & Holdrege & Spanish Fork Township alike just two years prior; these ordinances lasted until 2005 when they were repealed due to pushback from restaurant owners who claimed they violated First Amendment rights enshrined therein). Bellevue is a town in Kearney County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1865 and platted in 1867. Bellevue is named for Irving Bellevue, a landowner and politician who served as a delegate to the Omaha Territory Territorial Legislature in 1863. Bellevue was one of three townships organized by territorial state legislator George H. Smith on May 14, 1865; the others were Central City and Westville. On July 1, 1867, Bellevue became part of the newly created Kearney County when it was split from Osborne County. Bellevue's first store opened in 1865; it became an important local commercial center with several addition until its closing in 1971. A post office was established at Bellevue on December 20, 1870; it remained open until it closed on October 15, 1944. The first school district in Kearney County was formed by merger of Bellevue (with Westville), Central City (including East Side), and Parkerville on April 12, 1872; that district lasted until 1907 when it merged into the consolidated city-county system under which BellevUE operates today. The town has experienced several waves of population movements over the years: during World War II more than 60% of its residents were located within five miles of Omaha Naval Base; during and after World War II many residents left for jobs in other parts of Nebraska or Kansas due to low cost of housing available hereabouts; following the end of World War II most locals stayed while some relocated to other parts of Nebraska or Kansas again due to high prices for housing elsewhere after the war ended;; during and after the Great Recession many people moved back into their homes once again because finding affordable housing outside Omaha became increasingly difficult.; within a few years after Hurricane Katrina devastated muchOf New Orleans area including BellevUE almost all residents had returned home except those living near Lake Pontchartrain where they continued to reside through rebuilding efforts.; following tornado outbreak along I-25 EF3 struck southern Kearney County including BellevUE leaving extensive damage including Atchison Topeka Junction where two outbuildings collapsed completely onto their driveways destroying scores homes yielding acres worth sugar beets crop also impacted In recent decades there have been multiple attempts by proponents of building a new downtown development around State Fairgrounds property east side off US 24 which would include hotel/motels/restaurants/bars etc but no action has been taken since early 2009 when developers put together $10 million plan
