The first settlers to Bellevue were two families from Kentucky who emigrated in 1873 and started a farmstead three miles southwest of present day Bellevue. In 1880, a post office was established in Bellevue and by 1890 it had developed into a small town with a population of 150 people. The early residents built homes made out of logs and earth with few indoor amenities but they enjoyed access to water and good grazing land for their livestock which sustained them until about 1930 when oil exploration began in the area surrounding Bellevue making transportation difficult to come by. In reaction to this new development, some citizens formed an organization known as The People's Party which sought to improve public services such as water supply and education for the community including playgrounds and libraries for children. This group also lobbied for local government authority over industry so that jobs could be created rather than being outsourced offshore or across state lines. However despite their efforts, no action was taken towards improving infrastructure until after World War II when Kansas City officials decided that Bellevue would make an ideal location for its new steel plant due to its proximity to river shipping lanes and its proximity to Interstate 90 (now I-90E). Bellevue's growth continued apace during the postwar period with businesses opening up including restaurants such as Joe's Pizza, Binghamton Brewing Company, KFC, Dairy Queen et al giving rise to what has become one of Nebraska's most vibrant communities along with excellent schools which continue provide quality instruction today despite budget cuts over recent years resulting in lower enrollments at many district schools but also opportunities for adults interested in learning alongside their kids within walking distance without ever having leave home! Today there are more than 1,000 residents living within just one mile radius of downtown Bellevue while continuing upwards trend we see businesses expanding into neighborhoods adjacent like Northside (to the north), Southside (to the south), Main Street East (to the east) and even Downtown East now becoming home to several high end boutiques! With all this growth comes increased traffic congestion on Interstates 80/88 combined with limited parking options available making it increasingly difficult unable recently even bring my car into town Limits Parkade only 8 spots available daily full time! Finally rising costs associated with maintaining these sizable populations have led some parents beginning working outside the home themselves hours long drives away not only putting additional strain on already tight budgets but also impacting school attendance rates too often leading current students attending districts bordering onto BellevUE feeling left out both academically speaking as well as socially experiencing challenges such as lackADA opportunities & homeless encampments near our high schools
