Bellevue, Nebraska is a small town in the heart of the Great Plains. The population was 5,714 at the 2010 census. It is located in Kearney County and has a humid continental climate (Köppen: Dfa), according to the Köppen Climate Classification system. The community began as a cattle ranch on the edge of what is now Bellevue, Nebraska. In 1881, General James J. Hill purchased Rancho de las Vegas from Manuel Alvarez and founded Bellevue as an agricultural town on his property. The first post office was established in Bellevue in 1882. Over time, other businesses were established around Bellevue such as a meatpacking firm and fruit orchards. By 1907, Bellevue had become an independent city. In 1913, Bellevue incorporated as a Village under the name of "Bellevue." On October 1st of that year, all CITY GOVERNMENTS IN THE STATE OF NEBRASKA WERE REFUSED TO JOIN WITH BELLEVUE IN A VILLAGE FORMATION BECAUSE IT WAS KNOWN THAT BELLEVUE WOULD BE MAKING MORE MONEY OUT OF ITSELF THAN YEAH BUT THEY DECIDED TO JOIN anyways AND WE ARE NOW ONE COMMUNITY UNDER A NEW NAME
Bellevue was founded by Judge George W. Bellevue in 1868 as a small town on the edge of the Nebraska Territory. He moved his family from Iowa to Bellevue in 1869 and soon began expanding the town. He opened a store, built a school, and began purchasing land for development. Bellevue quickly became one of the most important cities in Nebraska. In 1915, Bellevue was renamed Omaha after World War I General John J. Pershing declared it an open city. The city continued to grow as a commercial center and grew numerous businesses including banks, insurance companies, law firms, restaurants, and more. Bellevue's economy declined during the Great Depression but slowly recovered during World War II thanks to its contributions to military spending. In 1951, Bellevue became the first city in Nebraska to be incorporated as a suburb of Omaha when it merged with nearby North Omaha
