The first European settlement in what is now Nebraska occurred around 1785 when French trappers discovered fur traders operating outposts along the upper Missouri River Valley. A post office called Belle Vernon was established at this location on November 12, 1885 by Jerald Fenton with mail service beginning December 1st. One hundred years later on October 14th 1906,Bellevue's incorporation as a city followed an act approved by voters on November 7th 1909 boundaries being changed from 0 acres north side bisecting Ottawa Creek Road into City limits south side intersecting Indian trail 10 rods east & west from original plat boundary line between Township Of Ottawa & City Limits
