The history of Beatrice, Nebraska begins in 1865 when the town was founded by Danish immigrants. The town grew rapidly and by 1875, it had a population of over 500 people. By 1907, the town had grown to 1,000 people and it continued to grow until its incorporation as a city in 1912. In 1925, Beatrice became the first city in Nebraska to ban smoking in public places. The city has since kept this policy and is one of the few cities in the United States that still prohibits smoking in all public places.
Beatrice is a small town in Kearney County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 5,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Omaha-Council Bluffs-Winnebago Micropolitan Statistical Area. Beatrice was founded as a log cabin settlement by Heman and Rebecca Beatty on the banks of the Missouri River in 1858. The village became a stage stop on the Oregon Trail, and later became known for its high school which graduated its first class in 1875. The First National Bank of Beatrice opened in 1865 and played an important role in Beatrice’s history until it closed its doors in 1984. In 1924, Beatrice post office building was added to the National Register of Historic Places. In 1957, Beatrice voters passed a resolution proclaiming July 4th as “Independence Day” in memory of their Revolutionary War ancestor Major General Daniel Boone who fought for America against Great Britain during that year’s war. In 1990, Beatrice received approval from the Nebraska legislature to become anUrban Development District (UDD). That same year saw the opening of one of Nebraska's largest shopping malls when Nebraskan Mall opened located adjacent to Beatrice High School which had been newly constructed at that time by Meineke Department Store Co.? He would wander around the small town, staring at the ubiquitous billboards advertising businesses in nearby towns like Omaha or Lincoln. It was through these advertisements that he first saw an opportunity to visit Beatrice for himself – it was then that he learned that Beatrice had been founded by Norwegian immigrants in 1868 as a small farming community. Beatrice quickly became known for its delicious milk products, which it exported to neighboring cities such as Omaha and Lincoln. The milk production trend in America during this time was switch to cheese production due to advances in technology; however, Beatrice remained an important local producer of milk until after World War II. In fact, even today, some of the most popular items sold at local grocery stores are items made with cow milk – such as yogurt and ice cream – because they can still be produced without harmful chemicals or other additives. The area around Beatrice also began to experience rapid growth following World War II; this was largely due to new industrial development coming online in the city center including aluminum manufacturing plants and a large chemical plant. While many of these factories left behind significant environmental impacts throughout their neighborhoods (e.g., aluminum smelters released massive amounts of toxic gases into surrounding neighborhoods), Beatsieans continue to enjoy quality life thanks largely to their vibrant downtown district which retains much of its architecture from past eras despite heavy traffic congestion typical of larger metropolitan areas during this period with scarce public transportation options available outside the downtown core itself).
