Beatrice is a small town in Nebraska, United States. It is located on the applicance of the Missouri River, about an hour and a half north of Omaha. The population was 535 at the 2000 census. Beatrice has been inhabited by Native Americans for over 500 years and was known as Pawnee Town before it was renamed Beatrice in 1881. It was named after the Italian princess Giovanna d'Arcangelo who married George Armstrong Custer during the American Civil War. In 1902, Beatrice became part of the United States when it joined other Nebraska towns in forming Lincoln County. The first settler in what would become Beatrice were two brothers, Harry and Jesse Cook, who arrived in 1879 from Illinois. They built a log cabin on the site that still stands today along with a farmstead which they operated until their deaths in 1901 and 1913 respectively. Their children, Harry Jr., Jesse III and Helen Cook also lived there during this time period. A post office called "Pawnee" was established at Beatrice in 1881, but it didn’t remain open long because mail went to Omaha instead. In 1908, Jens Wilhelm Christensen came to Nebraska from Denmark with his wife Magdalena (née Boesen). Jens had heard about beatiful land along the Missouri River east of Omaha and decided to settle there himself so he could get his hands on some of it. He started out farming but quickly realized that he needed more capital to begin buying land so he set up a printing press and founded The Daily News Press Company which began publishing its first edition on October 1st 1909 under the name The Pioneer Press Corporation.. -Jens Wilhelm Christensen: Pioneer Press Corporation founder After selling his presses he moved his family back to Denmark where they continued to operate newspapers until their death in 1935. Their daughter Nannie served as Editor-in-Chief of The Evening World from 1954-1973 while her son Ole Hansen served as Publisher from 1974-1981; later becoming Managing Editor until 1986 when he retired.. Nannie Christensen died suddenly while pregnant with her third child due to complications related to breast cancer she had been having since childhood; her husband Ole Hansen took over editorship for her children before she died six months later aged 47..

Beatrice is a community in Douglas County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 1,563 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Omaha–Council Bluffs metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1881 by John Goodspeed and his wife, Anna Louise Goodspeed. Beatrice post office was established in 1885. The Goodspeeds were the first settlers in Beatrice. In 1902, George Aiken purchased land from the Goodspeeds and built a home there named Prairie View Terrace. He served as mayor of Beatrice from 1915 to 1917 and as a member of the Douglas County Board of Commissioners from 1916 to 1922. In 1925, Jens Hansen opened what became known as Hansen's General Store on Main Street in Beatrice. From 1927 until its closure in 1985, Hansen's ran an agricultural store that specialized in potatoes, cornmeal, eggs and other food items for local farmers markets throughout the Midwest. Hansen also sold gasoline and oil products from his shop until he closed it down due to health concerns related to gas fumes emitted from his equipment during processing of these products. In 1951, beatrixxpress company started up by Darrel Hinton with help from his father-in-law Leland Christensen who had been living near Beatrice when he opened a paper mill there some years earlier (the first paper mill west of Missouri). The business grew quickly but eventually failed due to competition from cheaper Neighbor Industries mills nearby; however Hinton kept trying until Eventually he succeeded where others had Failed - starting up another paper mill north of Beatrice which still flourishes today under the name 'Hinton Paper Mill'. There are now several small businesses running out ofbeatrixxpress including one selling flowers online and another doing printing/shipping services out of their house on North First Street!
