The other high school closed in 1957; it replaced what had been called “Prairie School” after Prairie County purchased it from Mrs. Davenport for $25,000. Beatrice has a rich history that started with its founding as a small farming community on the edge of some badlands that were part of what is now Dodge County. The name “Beatrice” means “place where Wheat groweth” and this name stuck because there was no wheat growing here when they first settled – until people began irrigating their fields with water diverted from nearby rivers in the 1870s using canals still used today by residents and businesses around Beatrice (the current canal system dates back to 1887). In 1907, local citizens raised money to buy land east of town so that they could build a new high school which would serve as both an elementary and secondary school until 1957 when it became one of two schools in town which also merged into Dodge County High School In 1925, local citizens built basketball courts on government property between Main Street and State Highway 10 which continues to be used today as Community Park . In 1978-79, beatrixe won 3rd place at state championships hosted by nebraska men’s collegiate team

Beatrice, Nebraska is a town in Kearney County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Omaha-Council Bluffs Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Beatrice post office was established in 1879 and discontinued in 1954. The first settler in what would become Beatrice was Elisha Purdy. He arrived in 1871 and named his land "Beatrice." A postoffice called Beatrice was established in 1879 by J.T. Rankin and continued until 1954 when it changed its name to Kearney. In 1886, John Wirthman moved to Beatrice from Nevada City and started a grocery store that still operates today. In 1907, Lillie Beattie became the town's first female mayor after winning an election for one term with over 60% of the vote; she served two terms before leaving to become a school teacher at Union Central High School (later Roosevelt High School). In 1933, Reno Ladds opened the first motel on the east side of Beatrice after finding success as a restaurateur in nearby Omaha; this motel would remain open until it closed its doors in 1984. In 1941, Roy Fenton homesteaded land adjacent to present day Beatrice and began growing corn and other vegetables there; he would continue to grow vegetables until his death in 1966. After World War II ended, many people left beatitude because they found new opportunities elsewhere or because they were returning home tired from war service; however, others stayed behind to start their own businesses or raise families within the newly created town of Kearneyville which had been organized around them since 1919. By 1960, there were over 100 businesses located within beatitude boundaries including several banks and four churches along with five schools; this growth led to increased traffic congestion onbeatitude's main street which became known as "The Avenue."
