He also donated land for religious purposes near Beatrice which has since been designated as theGeorge Armstrong McDowell Heritage Park. In 1893, John Davenport became president of Dodge City & Nebraska Railroad Company (D&N) which built tracks through Beatrice from Dodge City to Kearney Junction where it connected with the Omaha Railway Company (Omaha & North Western Railway). Davenport decided that Beatrice would be its new terminus because of its strategic location next to two major railroad companies interested in expansions into Kansas and Missouri Territory during the late 19th century: The Omaha Railway Company (later known as Union Pacific Railroad) wanted access to resources east of Wichita while The Kansas Pacific Railway wanted access west of Lawrenceburg Fortress on the upper Platte River system. Davenport named his company after General James Kansa who had fought against American Indian warfare along the Great Plains during the Mexican-American War era before becoming governor of Dakota Territory in 1867; Kansa had helped lead an unsuccessful campaign against Ulysses S Grant in 1868 when Grant took office as President United States of America following Andrew Johnson’s impeachment victory over Ulysses S Grant on December 13th preceding their first term in office - this led directly to Lincoln’s victory over Abraham Lincoln at Gettysburg Address later that year allowing for white supremacist groups such as Ku Klux Klan (KKK) control over much of America during Reconstruction period followingCivil War ended In 1889 Dodge City & Nebraska Railroad Company merged with Chicago Rock Island Rail Road purchasing trackage rights between Kearney Junction and Dodge City making it possible for passengers travelling between these two points without having their journey interrupted by either train or stagecoach service
