In Montana, rifle stocks have a long and varied history. Rifle stocks were first developed in the early 1800s to help farmers use firearms to protect their crops frompredatory animals. Over time, rifle stocks became more specialized and subsequently lost their traditional agricultural purpose. Today, rifle stocks are still used by ranchers, hunters, and militia members in various capacities. The first rifles designed for military purposes were made in the 1850s. These rifles were called muskets because they were designed to be fired only with powder that was taken from small mammal brains. The development of artillery made it necessary for infantrymen and cavalrymen to carry cannons instead of just fists or spears when fighting against armies on long distances. As a result, rifle stocks started becoming less important as military equipment diversified and began being used more for huntingamuscles instead of battlefield damage control/support. However, due to their importance in agriculture, many rural residents continued to own rifles dating back to the 1800s even though they no longer functioned as combat weapons. Cowboy stockings helped increase horse productivity by providing them with better footing while working around fences and also improved horsemanship since they allowed riders to keep both hands on the reins during transportations and transportation across open country (see Cowboy Stockinng). In addition, cowboy stockings frequently fell off horses’ backs during travel so they needed special care not available to regular people who rode horses unassisted (see Horse Transportation). All these factors helped make cowboy stockinng one of the most common types of firearm clothing across America during this period (See Cowboy Stockinng). As Riflestocks evolved over time into more specialized types such as pump action shotguns and bolt action rifles, farmer's arsenals became increasingly important due to their ability provide multiple firearms platforms for different tasks at different ranges including self-defense/protection duties as well as target shooting events at local fairgrounds where citizens could come together and shoot marksmanship competitions (See Shotgunry & Bolt Action Rifles). Because farmer's arsenals provided multiple firearms platforms available at different ranges within easy reach for anyone who desired them, these events quickly became popular among citizens all over America who enjoyed using them for target shooting contests between individuals or groups (See Target Shooting). By 1900 there were several hundred thousand registered gun owners in America with about ninety percent thereof located in states bordering Alberta such as Montana where rifle stocks had a long history dating back centuries prior.

The Missoula Rifle and Pistol Club was founded on October 20, 1892. It is the oldest rifle and pistol club in the United States. The club has been meeting continuously since then and now meets monthly at a different location in Missoula.

The town was founded in 1887 by homesteaders who rented land from the government for grazing purposes. In 1916, Missoula became an incorporated city. Missoula's history began with its location on the Missoula River. The first white settlers to arrive in what is now Missoula were fur traders who traded with the Creeks and other Native Americans. They named their community after Mount Hood, which they saw as a great symbol of power and strength. Over time, however, missouria inhabitants started trading goods and services with neighboring settlements on the Missouri side of the river. This led to Missoula becoming known as an important transportation hub for western Montana and parts of Wyoming and Colorado. In 1887, homesteaders who had leased land from the government arrived in what is now Missoula to start farming out of their homes. By 1916, Missoula had become an incorporated city thanks to efforts by Mayor JB Stephens and others to promote development within its bounds.
