When the Kalispell Rifle Club was founded in 1892, they were the first gun club in the area. The club made its home on a small hilltop near what is now downtown Kalispell. The members of the club salvaged whatever firearms they could from local military and national Guard units that had been stationed in the area at the time. This led to their nickname “The Gunners” because of their rifles and shotguns being stored and used as part of their militia activities. In 1918, the rifle club moved to its current location on Third Street between Broadway and Montana Avenue. It remained here until it disbanded in 1962 due to dwindling membership and financial difficulties. In 1986, it was reactivated by a local group of citizens who restored it as an NRA-certified shooting range for civilians called “The Range”. Today, The Range offers many different types of shooting events for those who love getting outdoors and enjoying nature with friends or family.

Kalispell is a small town in the U.S. state of Montana. It is located on the Snake River, about 20 miles (32 km) east of Butte and 50 miles (80 km) northwest of Kalispell. The population was 753 at the 2010 census. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Montana were fur traders from Russia and Siberia in the 1820s. They named their new land "Alta California" after Francisco Filisandez, captain of an expeditions sent to explore that area in 1824-25. In 1864, Gold was discovered at Fort Peck on the Bighorn River by prospectors led by John Dickey and James Hargrave. The town sites near present day Kalispell were surveyed for a railroad station, but no stations were built because of low ore prices and difficult terrain. In 1886, a post office was established at Kalispell; it served until 1902 when it was moved to Butte because of high Postal rates there. World War I delayed construction of the railway until 1919; however, it finally arrived in 1922 as part of the Alaska Railroad system.; In 1923, Kalispell became a city with a population over 5300 people., In 1941, during World War II, Japanese forces attacked Mount Rainier National Park and burned much of nearby Kalispel; as retaliation for this attack local residents drove out all Japanese residents from the area within days., In 1951, following passage through Congress Of The United States' Interstate Compact On Education Amendments which gave states power to set higher education standards than those granted by most federal agencies., Kalispell became an Associate State Of The Federal Republic Of America On July 1st 1956.) At that time its population reached 10 000 citizens who made up just 3% Of THE STATE POPULATION OF MONTANA!
