Gun sights have been a part of Montana's history for many years. When the first guns were brought over from Missouri, they were fitted with iron sights. The first rifles in Montana were made with gun sights and these early weapons had to be hand-held because there was no sighting system available at that time. The first true firearms sight in Helena was installed on the home of Capt. John Waddell in 1892. This type of firearm sight consisted of an adjustable objective lens and a tiny picker or pointer that could be moved up or down to adjust the aim of the weapon. It wasn't until 1912 when a new type of rifle sight was introduced that saw service in Montana. This new rifle sight consisted of a magnifying glass attached to a metal tube which could be moved up and down to adjust magnification. From this innovative invention, it wasn't until 1929 when Winchester Precision Incorporated began marketing their own rifle sights designed specifically for use with shotguns in America. These shotgun rifle sights utilized what is known as a "bullseye" design which allowed shooters to quickly place their shots within 5 yards using just two clicks on the dials located above each aperture pupil! This improvement would lead to increased accuracy for hunters across America and helped make shotguns one of the most popular firearms in history!

The town continued to grow and by 1911, it had become a city. In 1925, Helena joined the Union of American Cities and in 1957 became an independent city.

In 1865, Confederate General Robert E Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House in Virginia following his army's defeat at Gettysburg. As a result of this event, many citizens of Helena emigrated to other parts of America or returned home while others volunteered for military service in support of the Union cause. Many residents of Helena continue to live here today as descendants of those who sacrificed their lives during the Civil War. Today, Helena remains an agricultural community with a primary focus on wheat production and hay bale production

Helena, Montana is a small town located in the comprise of Bozeman and Butte counties in the Great Plains region of Montana. The population was 5,057 as of the 2010 census. Helena’s history can be traced back to 1885 when a post office called Helena was established in what is now Butte County. In 1907, Helena became an incorporated city and remains so today. The early residents of Helena were farmers who took advantage of the fertile land that surrounded them. By 1915, Helena had become one of the largest cities in Montana with a population of over 50,000 people. The city experienced several boom years during World War I and II due to its importance as an airfields for the military and its location on the Great Plains near major markets. After the war ended, Helena began to experience declines in population until it peaked at around 70,000 people in 2000. However, since then there has been steady growth with current populations standing at over 80,000 people. One significant event that occurred during Helena’s history is the Battle of Little Big Horn which took place on November 6-8th 1886 between United States cavalry troops commanded by Colonel John Gibbon and General Metallicouez Creek warriors under Chief Manuel de la Hoya Ramos y Otero. It was one of only two engagements fought by Ulysses S Grant during his presidency; he also defeated Confederate forces at Vicksburg five months later. Today, many local businesses still operate from their original locations or are newly renovated interpretations of those stores from earlier generations Jugular Coffee & More (now Starbucks), Safeway Supermarket (now Kroger), Masonic Lodge #2 (now A&W) and other locally owned businesses contribute to downtown business DISTRICT WALK—a district walk that runs along Main Street between First Avenue southward and Trotter Avenue northward serving as a commercial corridor for all aspects related to human activity including shopping plus arts & culture opportunities such as art galleries/museums/performance theaters/theater districts etc.—an excellent opportunity to see how various parts have interacted over time while promoting social intercourse among diverse groups
Helena was founded in 1887 by three men, including James W. Armstrong, who then became the first postmaster of Helena. The town grew rapidly and by 1907 had a population of over 1,000 people. In 1916 Helena became the capital of Montana and remained so until 1959 when it was moved to Bozeman.
