During recent decades however, much progress has been made towards revitalization with redevelopment projects such as The Gateway Center project whichopened up much needed vacant land for residential development; while other initiatives have focused on improving public transportation options within and around town; increasingaccessibility to local restaurants; or creating green space for residents/visitors alike
Great Falls was founded in 1867 by the Great Falls andMissoula Railroad. The town grew quickly, and by 1876 there were over 50 businesses in the community. In 1916, the Great Falls Chamber of Commerce was founded, and in 1978, Great Falls became a city.
