In 1892, Great Falls became home to the first handgun factory in America when John Wesson Manufacturing Company opened their doors. The company produced handguns using breech-loading mechanisms which made them much faster and more efficient than earlier designs. The success of this innovation led to other manufacturers following suit and soon there were several pistol factories in Great Falls. The years from 1890 through World War I saw an increase in gun violence in Great Falls as people began traveling to the city for jobs or entertainment purposes. As a result, guns began becoming more popular and availability increased. During World War I, however, shotguns underwent a change that made them more effective at shooting projectiles out of cannons instead of just cannonball size balls. As technology improved throughout the war years, guns became available which allowed civilians to own firearms for protection purposes. In 1934, Congress passed the National Firearms Act which regulated firearm ownership nationwide. This law placed restrictions on certain types of firearms such as assault rifles and pistols which were not previously legal under federal law. Since then, gun regulation has become increasingly stricter with fewer loopholes allowed for firearms owners across America. Today, only full-auto weapons are legal within certain borders while background checks are mandatory for all transactions involving firearms
Great Falls is a city in the U.S. state of Montana. The population was 5,824 at the 2010 census, making it the largest city in Montana and the second-largest city in the Western United States after Denver, Colorado. It is located on the Great Falls River at its confluence with the Missouri River. The city was founded by Mormons in 1879 as a stop on their western journey from Nauvoo, Illinois to Salt Lake City. Mormon pioneers arrived here from Utah and Nevada during what is called “the great migration” of 1846-49. In 1870–71 an act of Congress designated Great Falls as a town site for Great Falls County, Montanans were offered land grants for settlement east of Yellowstone National Park and west of Helena (laterHelena). This area now includes all or part of Great Falls and several adjacent townships: Bannockburne, Belle Fourche, Cascade, Deer Lodge, Fillmore, Golden Valley, Heron Lake Township (now White Cloud), Keystone Heights Township (now Golden Valley), Leduc Township (now Leduc), Maple Hill Township (now White Cloud) and Walshtown Township (later East Wenatchee). In 1881 local pioneer Hyrum Smith organized what became known as The First Mormon Battalion which trekked 14 miles through rugged country to Fort Arches on the Little Missouri River where they built their first temple – LDS Church headquarters until1998 when they moved into Nauvoo Temple Square downtown following renovations there by president Sproul that included new flooring and an express elevator to take members up to top levels where they could see all sides of God's creation. That same year saw construction begin on what would become Great Falls' first post office: G F Post Office building – still standing today just south of Main Street between Seventh Avenue NW and Eighth Avenue NW about 1/4 mile east from downtown near US 93 & I-5 exit road junction

Great Falls, Montana is a small town in the Great Lakes region of the United States. The population was 1,851 at the 2010 census. It is located in This Town County, Montana. The name originated from the falls on the Missouri River which were called "The Gorges" by Native American traders and travelers. The first settler in Great Falls was James McGillivray who arrived in 1867. In 1869, John Doe and his party of nine men set out from Great Falls for Beaver Dam on the Missouri River to prospect for gold. They never reached Beaver Dam because of a blizzard that struck during their journey. In 1870, George Armstrong Custer fought with General Philip Sheridan's cavalry unit at Battle of Little Bighorn near Great Falls. After Custer's death, some residents began to believe he may have been poisoned by Indian Agent Sitting Bull and killed deliberately as part of an ambush plot against Sheridan's forces. In 1871, Jesse Blackmore settled in Great Falls after arriving from Canada with his family on horseback wagon and cattle overland route known as "The Oregon Trail". Blackmore became one of the most prominent citizens in town due to his pivotal role in developing irrigation systems and founding several businesses including a flour mill and lumberyard that remain important today. In 1902, David Starr Jordan opened up what would become one of America's first successful tourist attractions when he opened up Staggered Rapids Park across from Great Falls High School. Over time interest in tourism grew throughout Montana so Jordan decided to expand operations into what would become known as Jackson Hole National Monument which included much larger visitor centers within Jackson Hole itself as well as visitor trails leading away from those areaside destinations all across Jackson Hole National Park system!
On the crest of Great Falls, a Herculean effort was made to build a river crossing that would provide access to the Missouri River. The crossing was completed in 1855, and became an important route for traders and travelers. In 1861, when the Union Pacific Railroad was established, Great Falls became its terminus.
