Since the early 1800s, when muzzleloading firearms were first introduced to Butte County, Montana, shooters have enjoyed using and enjoying the sport of shooting. The popularity of muzzleloader shooting in Butte County began with the arrival of tourists in 1876. For a short time, residents imported large quantities of gunpowder from Illinois to make their own firearms. By 1907, there were over 150 rifle clubs and targets located throughout Butte County. Rifle shoots took place on Saturdays at various locations including buttes, hillsides and streamside benches. One of the earliest shotgun fatalities occurred on November 26th, 1903 when William Auld was fatally shot by George Hargrave while target hunting in Butte County. It is interesting to note that both men had been practicing shotgun shooting for many months prior to this incident. That same year saw the introduction of live ammunition into rifle shootings as shotguns became less common among hunters. In 1911, Butte Rifle Club president John Fenton decided that it was time for Shotgun Shooting Championship events within his club’s boundaries which would be open to any member who could shoot accurately from a standing position with a shotgun or rifle at 100 yards (91 meters). The next year saw another victory by John Fenton as he won his fourth Shotgun Shooting Championship at Deer Lodge Range just west of town. In 1912 Girdler Inlet Shotgun Ranges opened up next door to Butte Rifle Club making it possible for members from all around the county to attend these championship events without havingto leave their homes or go out into town where there was no range available! The early 1920s were very special for muzzleloader shooters because World War I started soon after America entered war “on our side” against Germany! Muzzleloader shooters traveled great distances in order to participate in these hostilities and they left nothing but good memories behind them! Unfortunately during World War II most muzzleloader shooters chose not To fight because they knew that war would soon become inevitable again! However some did choose this option and fought valiantly during the war! Many individuals who participated in muzzleloader shooting during this difficult time are still remembered today including Donny Larson who served two tours in Iraq as an infantryman with 3rd Infantry Division Signals Company; Bill Weitzer who was discharged from military service due to knee problems caused by machinegun fire; Bob Cooksey – also known as “the Butcher Boy” – who founded Bear River Outfitters which processed grizzly bear meat for export purposes; Norma Goodstadt – wife of rancher Don Goodstadt – whose husband operated one of Montana’s first ranching operations; Sheldon Carlson owned Big Hole Ranch near Whitefish City where he used his riflesmen skillsqv> deer hunting Adventures led him into area responsiblefor numerous animal killsqqv> ; Roy Patek started trapping cervids back along North Fork Salmon River about 1915 when he hooked a female moose on his property qv> . After Game Warden Ralph Dutton caught Qv>Patek trying to take away $2000 worthof caribou fqV> , qv>Dutton threatened qv>Patek with legal action if he ever caught another moose so poaching ceased completely on Dutton's land until 1978 when management changed handsdue largelytoQv>Larson's efforts! One other memorable event occurred on January 2nd 1948 when over 50 people attended a public meeting organizedby local farmers seeking regulationof highpower artillery being fired closeby rural communitiesinbutterfly country!!!! This gave risetoButterfly Country Gun Show laterthatyear!!!!!

Shooting protection history is a long and complex topic, but there are some basic truths to remember. The first shooting protection devices were invented in the early 1800s, and they consisted of a small shield or case that was worn around the neck when shooting. This protected the shooter from being hit by bullets and caused less damage to their body. Shooting protection devices continued to be developed and improved over time, and today we have many different types of shooting protectors available on the market. One of the most common types of shooting protectors is a helmet. Helmets are designed to prevent your head from getting hit by Bullets as you shoot. They come in all shapes and sizes, and most are made out of plastic or metal. There are several different types of helmets available on the market, including airsoft helmets, real-world firearms helmets, steel plates for full-face masks, Ballistic Shielding Devices (BAD), dogfighting helmets, etc. There are several different benefits to using a Helmet: 1) It increases your survivability when shot: When you wear a Helmet it increases your chance of not being hit by Bullets while Shooting; 2) It reduces Damage To Your Head: A Helmet helps reduce Damage To Your Head which can result in survival; 3) It improves Reload Speed: A Helmet allows You To Reload Faster than Without One; 4) It Can Help With Hearing Protection: A good hearing protector will help improve Your Hearing while Shooting; 5) It Can Help With Eye Protection: A good eye protectant will help improve Your vision while Shooting; 6) It Can Stop Shots From Going Through Your Nose!: A good nose guard/guard device will help keep Shots From going through Your Nose!
