Mining operations continued until 1902 when production peaked with an output of 2 million pounds (1,100 metric tons). Output then decreased as new technology replaced older methods but silver has been mined here continuously ever since. Although today most people are involved only with agriculture or ranching, there are some heavy industryations such as a smelter that produces aluminum pellets for car manufacturing and fireworks supplies wholesale. The downtown area features a Gothic Revival architecture style which originated in Denver during the late 1800s when businessmen built new hotels and office buildings on city blocks near Civic Center Park while ignoring residential areas east of Market Street because they were considered too noisy for business purposes. Today’s buildings date back to 1907 including what may be one of America’s first movie theaters – the Fairmont Hotel where films were shown starting in 1912 before audiences traveled down Market Street to attend nickelodeons or go see shows at Masonic Hall or other venues across town until about 1930 when sound movies became popularized hereabouts so theater attendance plummeted precipitously leading to demolition of many early structures over time culminating with incorporation into what is now Butte Silver Bow Municipal Airport twelve years ago this month!
