Wentzville, Missouri is a town in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. The population was 2,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. The first scopes in Wentzville were built by A.H. Barnes and Company of Topeka, Kansas in 1892. The company made equipment for hunters and fishermen and also developed new methods for sighting rifles and shotguns. In 1913, the company merged with Browning & Co., creating one of the largest rifle companies in America. In 1924, Browning merged with Winchester Repeating Arms Company to form Winchester-Browning Corporation (Winchester). From then until it was sold to Remington Arms Company in 1960, Winchester-Browning Corporation produced some of the most famous firearms in history including the Model 1886 Rifle, Model 1895 Pistol and Model 1903 Shotguns. In 1925,wentzville became a city when it was incorporated as a village by an act of the state legislature under the name "Wentzville". On November 15th 1929 voters approved annexation into St Francis County by referendum vote (63% to 37%). The vote followed a campaign waged by Mayor Ewing Goodyear against annexation because he felt that would have brought more taxes and less education opportunities to his city which had been struggling economically since World War I When it became clear that St Francis County would not annex Wentzville but rather merge with other rural counties nearKansas CityAldridge Wimmert who served as mayor for 36 years from 1949 until his death on October 8th 2007 announced plans to move the county government from Overland Park to Wentzville so that all functions could be consolidated within one building On January 7th 2009 Aldridge Wimmert announced his retirement effective at noon on July 1st 2009 after 36 years of service
