First settled by Germans in the mid 1830s and originally called Eppelheim (meaning house on two hills), Wentzville grew quickly due to its strategic location near major routes connecting the west coast with central Missouri andKansas City. By 1860, there were over 100 residents living in what would become Wentzville; however, most of these were farmers engaged in agriculture or stock raising operations which did not allow them to own property themselves, so land speculators took advantage of this situation by buying up large blocks of land and developing it into townships/cities. In 1876 when Kansas statehood came about following the admission of Kansas into the Union as a Ulysses S., Judge John Aiken bought all but one block from resident James McCullough for $5 per acre! This acquisition set off an era where many Kawasaki dealers built their businesses hereabouts – making possible one of KS’s largest exports ever: automobiles! And what could be more appropriate than naming their dealership after their biggest export market? Just like that: another community born out of necessity – thanks to those who “made things happen” back then! As early as 1853 there were two blacksmiths operating within miles (2½ hours) of present day WentZville while slave labor continued supplying goods needed for settlers located further east along I-70 (then only 4 miles wide). African Americans worked long hours without pay at local mines and railroads located throughout much northwest Missouri during this time period; however such activity stopped once slavery ended on April 12th 1865 when Abraham Lincoln signed legislation abolishing slavery around Great Britain! With freedom now enjoyed by all across America including blacks working alongside whites hand-in-hand just like everyone else (!), this left some men feeling restless looking for new opportunities – something that soon caught fire within Goesvilie as well…businesspeople saw opportunity where others might have seen resistance!!!!!! Taking matters into their own hands: businessmen organized a group they dubbed “The Good Men Association” with initial goals being improving public schools run by white teachers while also promoting better housing opportunities (now known as FirstMerit Bank!). Thanks largely to vocal support from Mayor Harry Hagerty & other elected officials including future Ulysses S. Grant Ambassador Drury Lane!), good things kept happening right up until 1908 when Mr Fenton announced he would no longer stay put & move his business downtown because he foundered financially trying to compete with larger banks moving away from cities…..thus marking yet another cycle in history where business people always seem to find ways to succeed even if others don’t appreciate them!!! During World War II plant production moved southward along I-70 creating some really big jobs (& lotsa German POWs!) but again those days are behind us & gone forever!!! Today we can enjoy all sorts Of recreational activities available nearby such as golfing (& fishing!), swimming (& skiing!), etc.; plus our beautiful town has retained much architectural significance since becoming a city!!!
