Wentzville, Missouri is a small town in Jefferson County, Missouri, United States. The population was 631 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield-Springfield, MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Wentzville Rifle Scopes Company was founded in 1892 by George H. Wentz and his son Herbert L. Wentz. The company produced rifle scopes and other hunting optics products until it ceased operations in 1970. In 2007, the company's remains were discovered buried beneath a building complex on the west side of town. The discovery led to a restoration of the riflescope factory complex as well as new research into rifle optics history in Wentzville and throughout America.

Wentz started his own business manufacturing rifles and shotguns in Wentzville, which continued until 1951 when it merged with Dean & DeForest's company to become Dean &DeForest Incorporated. In 1916, Wm Covington founded an optics company called CV Optics in Wentzville that still exists today as Vortex Optics Incorporated. In 1971, CV Optics merged with Seagull Optical Company to form Seagull-Vortex Incorporation which remains headquartered in Wentzville today but has its operations scattered throughout various locations including North Carolina, Texas and Florida. In 1984, Brownells bought out Vortex for $582 million and renamed their products Brownells Vortex Opticals LLC
Wentzville, Missouri is a small town in Johnson County, Missouri. The population was 1,824 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Springfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. Wentzville is located on the banks of the White River. A post office called Wentzville was established in 1872, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1936. The village was named after General George Washington Wentz (1763-1837), a hero of the American Revolution and one of the few military veterans to receive a pension from America. The first store in what is now Wentzville was built by William Ladd and his wife around 1875. A school started up in 1877, but it closed within two years because there were not enough students to warrant an entire building. A new school was built between 1901 and 1904 by German immigrants Peter Geiselbach and Wilhelm Kappeler with assistance from local citizens John Broughton and Johannes Müller. In 1907, Wm Matson became proprietor of the store which continued to operate until 1938 when it went out of business due to bad economic times as well as World War I shortages that caused prices for food items to quadruple overnight; however, Mr. Matson still remains active with many events including Fourth of July fireworks displays at his home ever since
