Wentzville, Missouri is a town in St. Louis County, Missouri, United States. The population was 10,912 at the 2010 census. Wentzville is part of the St. Louis metropolitan area. It is named after General David Anthony Wentz who served as colonel in the Union army during the American Civil War and as Mayor of St. Louis from 1874 to 1875. The first store in Wentzville was built on Main Street in 1872 by JF Brown and his son-in-law Wm Hutton. The town had a population of about 100 people before it became an incorporated village on November 5, 1907 with a population of 1,500 people. On December 2, 1957, the village merged with neighboring city Springdale to form what is now called Wentzville City Park with a total land area of 362 acres (163 hectares). The Village Museum traces its beginnings to 1865 when Solomon Jennings donated five acres (20 ha) of land for public use in front of his home on North Third Street near current day Washington Boulevard and Interstate 44/Route 442 in what then was rural St. Louis County.
