The Wentzville Rifle and Pistol Club was chartered in 1892. In 1909, the club became the Wentzville Gun Club. The first rifle competition took place in 1911. The club won three consecutive pistol competitions from 1912-14. In 1916, the club moved to its present location at 6100 West State Street.
Wentzville is a small town in the Thirteenth Judicial District of Missouri, United States. The population was 1,719 at the 2010 census. Wentzville is part of the Springfield–Harrison Metropolitan Statistical Area. Wentzville was founded in 1839 by John Wentz and his wife Catharine. They named it after their father-in-law, General David Weitzel, who had helped them purchase land near present-day Springfield. The first post office was established in 1841. In 1865, the Wentzes moved to what is now Webster City; they lost their home there in a fire that year. In 1875, John Wentz Jr., grandson of John Wentz Sr., became the first black man to be elected as a city councilman in Missouri. He served until his death in 1935. The Wentzes donated land for Webb Chapel which serves as the only African American church in town today. In 1906, Wm Hargrave built an addition to his house on West Main Street which became known as "The Old House" (now part of Webster City's Historic district). It still stands and is used as a museum today. In 1926, Sam Bass bought property east of Main Street from James Crouch and developed it into Bass Farms Country Club which remains one of Wentzville's most popular attractions today (the club has been closed since 2001). In 1965–1966, when Ironton gave up its municipal rights and became an unincorporated community within the Town of Webster City limits – went with it all its facilities including its post office building on Main Street – also came all its citizens: nine men by name and four women plus mother Goose who ran everything from kitchen to store until her death at 89 years old last week; mother Goose being Mrs J Fenton who lived next door to go out shopping with her five daughters every day between 9am and 3pm back then! Today we have our own ZIP code 60822 so if you ever want an auto or driver’s license just show us your proof of insurance or residency number! And speaking about getting things done these days this past week one can only assume that Mrs Fenton organized some sorta ladies golf outing/watch party for all her former residents/neighbors like herself just prior to Memorial Day Weekend (and largest endowment event we’ve ever hosted) well needless to say not many folks showed up but considering how much funMrsFentonusedtohave Organizing those events ranging from craftsMENU items such as quiltsAND dolls TO MUCH MORE!
