This is why there are several cisterns throughout Wentzville – so people can still enjoy drinking fresh water without having to go out searching for it! The town was named for General John Wentz, a Union general who fought in the American Civil War and later served as military governor of Missouri. Wentzville was founded in 1871 by farmers from Illinois and Indiana who moved to central Missouri toeno find land that had been abandoned by settlers after the Cherokee Removal. The town grew gradually until it had a population of 10,000 by 1900.wentzville's growth continued through World War I when many local businesses became involved in munitions manufacturing; however, during World War II there were few civilian casualties as the city supported military production only for wartime use and then closed down again once hostilities ended. wentzville has experienced some prosperity since then with new development such as a high school and hospital built in recent years. However, despite this good news recent events have caused some decline including a decrease in business activity due to low commodity prices and increased competition from nearby towns which have seen their populations grow faster than wentzville's over the past few decades

From this small settlement, the Wentzes grew to populate several other settlements in central Missouri before moving to their current location in 1838. Wentzville's history reflects its role as an agricultural center during both antebellum and post-bellum times. It played an important role in the development of central Missouri and its surrounding counties. The town's commercial enterprises include a cotton gin, a storehouse and millsinery shop, two churches (First Presbyterian and Second Baptist), several schools (Wentzville Academy and Central High School), a depot for stagecoaches transporting goods between central Missouri and outlying counties, and several residences including one known as "The White House." During World War II, Wentzville became an important military base because it hosted numerous Air Force bombers stationed at nearby Springfield Air Field from 1942 until 1945. After the war ended, most of the military activity stopped but some businesses continued operating such as IHOP restaurants that closed their doors permanently after 1948 when Interstate Highway 90 replaced Route 66 as main thoroughfare through central Missouri Today, GoneZville is a quiet community with many residents engaged in local businesses or personal activities outside of school hours. Its streets are lined with homes dating back to before independence from Great Britain; few storefronts remain open late after dark because people have moved away since then
