The first post office at Wentzville was established in 1859, and took its name from General Israel Putnam Wentz. The first store opened there in 1861 by J B McClure and R C Goodloe. A hotel called the Starlite Hotel was built near the intersection of US Route 66 and State Route 34 about 1915-16 by H L Ballard & Sons Limited Company of Topeka, Kansas (now known as Ballentine Hotels). It burned down on July 20th 1916 while serving as a training ground for American Expeditionary Forces during World War I; however, it has been reconstructed several times since then including most recently as part of the Kessler Park development nearby which also includes a movie theater, video game arcade, convenience store, restaurant/cafeteria, motel - all with views of downtown Wichita Falls across Elm Street In 1922 Enterprise Broadcasting System purchased TV service from St Louis Cardinals owner William Saffold for $1 million; this made Enterprise one of the largest television providers at that time across America before it went bankrupt within two years Wentzville is host site to many annual events such as "Oktoberfest" every October since 1898; "Mardi Gras" every February since 1904; "Fairs" every summer since 1924; "Christmas" every December since 1865; various livestock shows each year starting around Thanksgiving until late January or early February (depending on season); "'Halloween'" annually beginning October 20th until early November depending on year (usually involving trick or treating); agricultural show held around late April/early May each year Agricultural Show Committee meets monthly to plan event dates
