Wentzville, Missouri is home to one of the oldest ammunition factories in the United States. The factory was founded by George Wentz and his son, John Wentz, in 1871. Ammunition production began in earnest at the Wentzville Factory in 1875. Throughout its history, the Wentzville Factory has been responsible for manufacturing some of America’s most famous firearms and projectiles such as .22 caliber rifles and pistols. The Wentzville Factory also produced a large amount of cannon shot including for use on battlefields during the American Civil War. In 1865, George Wentz donated land to build a munitions depot in commemoration of America’s victory over Mexico at San Antonio de Bexar. The depot was known as “Wentzville Arsenal” until it was closed down in 1934 due to World War II troop shortages. Today, remnants of the old Wentzville Factory still stand within walking distance of downtown Wentzville. The youngest girl died young in infancy; Ann raised her four surviving children as her own: John A., James W., Clara V., and Everett K.. In 1840, when William Tecumseh Sherman arrived in America he set out to challenge American slavery but discovered that many southern slaveowners had moved away from their plantations so he decided to move north instead where he found more freedom for his slaves- an event which would have significant consequences for African Americans across America over the following centuries. John A. Wentz started construction of what would become known as "the first concrete building" in America near what is now Central Avenue & Gateway Boulevard in Wentzville on December 3, 1850 while James W.'s father was still alive; this structure served as the nucleus around which all other buildings were built over time – including Central Avenue Baptist Church (now Central Ave United Methodist Church), Drury’s Drug Store (now JBS Foods), Masonic Temple (now Shriners Hospitals For Children), both went down Market Street betweenCentral Ave & Gateway Boulevard- becoming one ofSt Louis’ most important commercial districts during its peak years during the 19th century A post office called Wentzville was established here on November 6, 1855; it remained open until 1893 . In 1861 Colonel Samuel Davenport organized local militia which helped suppress an uprising by Confederate sympathizers within Monmouth County . In 1865 Union General Ulysses S Grant set up military headquarters here before departing for Memphis . On January 14 1865 President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated outside Ford's Theatre complex just east of downtown St Louis In 1869 Gottschalk Bros ice cream parlor opened adjacent to current Central Ave United Methodist Church - later renamed "WentZVILLE ICE CREAM" after founder Harry Gottschalk Jr . The first movie theater ever opened at what is now Webster Hall located just south Main Street east of Central Ave – becoming one ofStLouis’ most popular entertainment districts during its peak years during the late 19th century In 1907 John A.'s son Harry C./Harry H/Harry I bought out his father's interest in "the old cement works" situated along what are now Center Blvd & Gateway Boulevard - continuingwent down Market Street betweenCentral Ave & Gateway Boulevard into today's business district claiming naming rights along Center Blvd fronting Gateway Boulevard
