Wentzville, Missouri is a small town located in the Ozarks region of Missouri. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jackson County seat. The first permanent settler in Wentzville was Levi Coffin in 1836. By 1850, there were twenty-five families living in Wentzville. In 1871, the railroad arrived and changed everything. Businesses opened up and people started moving to Wentzville from surrounding towns and counties including Jefferson City, Kansas City, and Springfield. In 1911, a new post office was built on Main Street and the community name was changed to Wentzville after General John Swayne went into exile after losing an election as governor of Missouri. When General Swayne returned to Missouri he decided that his home state should be divided among himself and his two brothers - James A. Swayne in Kansas City (the capital) and David W. Swayne in Springfield - so they each took control of some territory within Missouri which made it easier for them to get elected as governor when they ran for office again in 1922/23. This led to another name change for Wentzville when James A.'s son David W.'s wife Sarah moved there from her home near Hannibal with their three children after her husband's death certificate listed him as "David W." instead of "John A." When Sarah died childless in 1944 she bequeathed her home on State Road 620 east of town to go along with other donations by her family members over time such as furniture from Carthage Furniture Company store location #1 (now Old National Bank building), flowers from local florists (#2 & 3), dishes from local restaurants etc., all donated anonymously until 1984-1985 when Curly Haggerty donated an ice cream truck also called "Sarah" which still stands today parked outside Old National Bank building next door where Curly Haggerty's restaurant used to be located before it closed down years ago but been converted into apartments inside). The original Post Office remained open until 1954 when it became part of a new school district that merged with neighboring Pee Wee League village into one larger school district (Jackson County School District No 41). In 1954-1955 a new fire station was built just north of town on what is now US Highway 66 between Newell (a neighbor) & Parkersburg; this helped revive business around town during those tough days following World War II when most businesses closed because there wasn't anything left to sell except salvageable items left over by war veterans who had taken whatever they could find while property values plummeted everywhere else around the country due mostly to then newly implemented government regulations regarding land ownership etc.). Due mainly because many residents had bought or inherited homes that were too valuable physically or financially to tear down or rebuild following WWII; most businesses did not reopens until later 1970s or 1980s once again becoming ghost towns like this one due lack of interest by former residents/business owners combined with changing demographics which has gradually replaced farming & ranching activities with more recent manufacturing/agricultural operations etc.) Although now only 2 blocks long frontage road leading south out of town past curbside parking lot onto Ulysses Avenue leads back immediately westward across historic farmstead known popularly as "The Gables" where once stood Chief Justice Roger Bemis' house dating back many years (& can still be seen if you look closely during heavy rains); much newer housing developments have encroached upon old farmstead properties making it difficult if not impossible anymore even for descendants living locally & nearby going back several generations via direct lines whether married off early or parents raised kids hereabouts). After 40+ years since its inception Congregational Church nice brick sanctuary added 1978 facing east across busy street opposite high school (& used frequently by church services held outdoors occasionally drawing large crowds despite often very hot weather conditions indoors) All Saints Episcopal Church built 1938 inside same large brick structure adjoining Congregational Church on north side same day addition providing additional space inside& nearly identical exterior design both churches share commonGeorge Washington Masonic Temple ruins visible behind fence southwest corner lot formerly occupied by student housing now occupied by cemetery

Wentzville was founded in 1855 and named for General Samuel Wentz. The first post office was established in 1858, and the first store opened in 1861. The town developed around two churches: First Baptist Church (founded in 1865) and Second Baptist Church (founded in 1872). Wentzville experienced several boom years during the early 20th century, with a population over 2,000 residents per year on average. However, during World War I the community lost its economic stability due to military barracks being built nearby; by 1920 there were only 175 residents living in Wentzville proper and it had fallen into disrepair. In the 1940s and 50s saw an increase of development in Wentzville as businesses began to open up along with increased employment opportunities thanks to World War II; however, by 1960 there were only 397 residents living within the town limits. Since then there has been little real growth or change to Wentzville's demographics; however, recent efforts have started to revive some aspects of its economy such as music festivals which have helped support local businesses.
The first white settlers in Wentzville arrived in 1831. The community was founded by Amos W. Walker and his brother Isaac. The original house of worship was a log cabin that stood on the banks of the Arkansas River. A larger, brick church was built in 1838. When the town voted to secede from Missouri in 1861, it had 3 blacksmiths, 1 tailor, 2 physicians, 5 teachers and 30 mechanics working for it.
