Webster Groves is a city in Clay County, Missouri, United States. The population was 5,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the St. Louis metropolitan area. The town of Webster Groves was founded in 1837 by Captain Lewis Webster and his wife Ann Whitney. Captain Webster had come to America from England with his family and they set up a shop in what is now the downtown core of the city of St. Louis. In 1840, Captain Websters son Lewis married Sarah Cooley and their first child was born in that year. WebsterGroves became a village on May 1, 1851 when it incorporated as a city under an act of the Missouri General Assembly In 1901, Samuel Ladd purchased 640 acres (2 km²) east of town for $5 million dollars which he dedicated to creating an open-air park with parks, playgrounds, a golf course, tennis courts and other facilities for people from all over Missouri and Illinois who came to visit him while he was president of The Chicago World's Columbian Exhibition.–Today’s Webster Groves Park opened to the public on July 15th 1896

Webster Groves, Missouri is a town located in the Ozarks of St. Louis County, Missouri, United States. It was named for General James Wilkinson Webster and his wife Sarah A. Webber. The population was 3,221 at the 2010 census. The first permanent settler in what is now Webster Groves was George Washington Hunt who arrived in 1799. He founded a cabin on the banks of the White River and named it Pryor's Ferry after himself and his father (George Washington Hunt). The first post office called Pryor's Ferry Post Office opened in 1806. The name of the original settlement changed to Webster Grove in 1824 when Jno. Hodge bought some land from Hunt and laid out a town grid on which he built four-story Federal style homes and erected stores, churches, schools, &c., with Isthmus Hotel as its centerpiece and first hotel building by 1827; additions were made throughout his lifetime including one house on Arabella Street in 1830-31 (now part of Municipal Court Building #2). In 1840 John Sibley became the second white settler when he moved from Illinois to this area with his family including six children under twelve years old. By 1850 there were over eighty families living hereabouts with one day school leaving for Independence Market every morning to buy goods that would be sold throughout Kendall County by blacksmiths there before they returned home evening; today only three buildings remain standing from this early period: Baptist church built about 1800-02 near present day Elmwood Drive (formerly south side of Clinton Road), courthouse built about 1851-53 just east of present day US Hwy 53 between IH 65 & MO 64 near Georgetown; oldest extant structure still standing: old stagecoach stop/livery barn dating from 1840’s just west side of Clinton Road opposite Dutchman’s Store
