Webster Groves is a small town in St. Louis County, Missouri, United States. It was founded in 1854 by Scots-Irish settlers and has since been the center of Irish culture in the area. The name "Webster" comes from an early settler, Alexander Webster, who named his land after his home country, Ireland. The first store in Webster Groves opened in 1854 and was the only one until 1886 when a grocery and post office were added. In 1860, a Methodist church was built and it still stands today. In 1865, two men named John Ahern and John McCloskey bought 320 acres (12 km2) of land north of town for $10 per acre ($140 per km2). They laid out what is now known as the Village of Webster Groves on this land. TheVillage had a schoolhouse, meeting house, barns, four stores - one each for meatpacking trade and farmers markets - two blacksmiths - one to forge cannons for Union troops during the American Civil War - two blacksmiths' shops - three churches - four hospitals - twelve homes - six schools (grades 1-8), five banks (two public banks: First National Bank & Trust Company; OneUnited Savings Bank), twentyone grain elevators (which delivered ground corn to local mills), sixteen sawmills (sixteen with capacity up to 400 tons/day), ten thousand square feet (977 m²) of retail space including eleven hundred (.90 m²) dwelling units One major event that took place in Webster Groves occurred on November 5th 1865 when General Ulysses S Grant made his way through town on horseback to give speeches at Soldier's Field after defeating Confederate General Robert E Lee at Appomattox Court House. It is said that Grant called upon the people of Webster Groves "to present him with their congratulations." Many residents donated items such as lawn ornaments or children's clothes to be given to Grant as he rode through town.

Webster Groves is a small town in north-central Missouri, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield, MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. Webster Groves was founded in 1827 by John Webster and his brother James Webster. The first post office was established in 1829. The town name originates from John's brother James who named it after himself and his family's home in Northumberland County, England. The Websters lived on a grant they received from the Kansas Territory government for land that would become Webster Groves. In 1837, they sold their holdings to Peterboro Township trustees Nicholas Gibbs and Ebenezer Arnold for $2,000. In 1840, they added another piece of land to their holdings when they purchased 2 acres (0.8 km²) of land from Elijah Cooks for $1 cash and erected a house thereon known as the "Webster House". That same year, they built a mill which still stands today on the west side of Main Street near where it used to be located before it was destroyed by fire in 1922. In 1850, John Fenton donated property east of Main Street to Webster Groves for use as a school district which later became known as Fenton School District #1 . The first school building was constructed here in 1851 during what is considered to be the early years of our village growth – something that we still remember all these years later! It wasn’t until 1867 when we had our second schoolhouse built also on this site; one that we are so proud to call ours! This new building served us well until 1959 when it too caught on fire! We learned our lesson though and replaced it with our current brick structure which now serves as our library! In 1974-1975 we once again renovated/added onto our old schoolhouse which we currently call “The Old Lady”; giving her back her very own roomy hallowed halls once again! She has since been moved out front but you can always catch a glimpse or two of her every time you walk through those doors 🙂 Our community has come such far since then (thankfully!) but there are many more stories yet to tell about some truly amazing people who have helped make this place what it is today including: pioneer Drue Wallis (founder/director of KQED), artist Don Freeman ( sculptor & founder of Dixon Museum), entrepreneur & philanthropist Leslie McDonald (founder/CEO & President emeritus at Midwestern Bell Communications Company), Mayor Tom Foley (former mayor & CEO of St Joseph North High School), Congressman Emanuel Cleaver III (current congressman from Missouri’s 3rd congressional district). And lastly but not least – Mrs./Dr.(Doris) Stoneback who ran for president twice (#2008&2012)! So many amazing people - thank you all so much for your support over the years!!!

Webster Groves is a small town in Scott County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. The community was named for General James Webster, who fought in the Mexican-American War and helped to win that war's independence from Mexico. In 1871, Webster Groves became part of Scott County. The city of St. Louis annexed the town in 1899; however, Webster Groves continued to exist as an independent municipality until 1907. In 1911, St. Louis annexed all of Scott County except for Webster Groves; therefore, the entire town became part of St. Louis again on January 1st 1912. The post office at WebsterGrove has been in operation since 1871 (when it was established at what is now Main Street). It served as one of three post offices within Scott County until 1907 when it became part of St. Louis which then merged with other localities within SaintLouis County to form the City of Ferguson/StLouis Heights on December 15th 1913. Today there are no resident businesses inside or outside of WebsterGrove and only a handful scattered throughout neighboring townships due to its small size and lack of infrastructure compared to larger cities such as STL and Ferguson/StLouis Heights alike (though this may change with the annexation into both cities by SaintLouis County). However, much like smaller Midwestern towns that have seen their populations dwindle over time due to loss of job opportunities or simply moving away during larger metropolitan areas' growth (e g Iowa City), Webster Groves still functions relatively smoothly despite having few residents present save for a couple hundred people who live primarily in downtown and surrounding area around Main Street which remains largely unchanged since its original establishment nearly 150 years ago!
