Webster Groves is a small town in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield, MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. Webster Groves was laid out in 1834 by Major James Webster and his wife Deborah. A post office was established at Webster Grove on May 5, 1835, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1893. The first settler in what is now Webster Groves was John French. He arrived with his family in 1836 and built a cabin near the present day intersection of Highway 59 and West Main Street. French raised corn and wheat for grocery stores in Springfield while also planting potatoes, apples trees (later to be named "Webster" after him), beans, African American slaves (later freed) and some hickory trees which are still standing today. In 1840, German immigrant Gottlieb Pohl erected a log cabin on the site of what is now the Post Office building on West Main Street east of North Avenue; this became known as "Pohl's Corner." In 1846 an act called for all male citizens over 21 years old to become farmers or join forces with militia to suppress insurrection by Native Americans living within Indian Territory south of Kansas City who were refusing to sell their land to white people pursuant to treaty negotiations that had been ongoing since 1785! To avoid any potential conflict arising from such an ordinance which would put all men into military service without proper compensation or pay – especially since most did not even own firearms – General Anthony Wayne issued Order No. 8171 which exempted males between 21 and 35 years old from becoming farmers or joining militias if they possessed only shotguns “for shooting game” or pistols “for protection against Indians” only!!! This order soon became known as "The Great Compromise". On November 15th 1854 Major James Webster married Miss Julia Hensley at Mound View Methodist Episcopal Church north of town on East Main Street; she was born December 12th 1793 at Randolph County seat of Union Township near Lebanon Station KY & died there October 25th 1865 aged 70 years 7 months 3 days & 13 hours 9 minutes!!! They had one son: James Wesley Webster who married Evalyn Bateson July 20th 1889 at Independence Grove Baptist Church (now demolished) just east of town off US 59 where he platted section 14-A-1-8 just northwest of current day North Avenue!! Mr Websters father may have been Colonel James Ewing Webster who fought against General Anthony Wayne during the War Of 1812 @ Ottawa Landing AK before moving west across the river to sections 20 & 22ndAK then finally settling here permanently c1824!!! Park moved to Webster Groves from Independence Township in neighboring Jefferson County and started a small grocery store there with Wm Hines as partner. Park also built a garage and two churches: First Presbyterian and Second Methodist Church (now known as Baptist). The first school in Webster Groves was built by Mr. Park in 1857; it served as an academy until 1865 when it became a high school under direction of Drs Jesse Ladd and John Ruffin (1861-1927). A post office called Webster Grove was established at this location on November 15, 1861; it was discontinued because of lack of subscribers six months later. In 1870, GEOGRAPHICAL SECTIONS OF MISSOURI - A COMPilation by Samuel Morse & Brothers - included a map of present-day WebsterGrove According to the 2010 census,[1] 1% of all households were below poverty line[2] including 0% for those under age eighteen living below poverty line,[3] 50% for those sixty five years or older,[4] 100% for those one hundred years or older.[5] According to official figures from May 2013 according to Missouri Department of Financial Services[6], there are 1 public schools within walking distance of every household making it possible for most residents to attend education that meets their needs without breaking the bank! This indicates that while there may be some challenges faced by many residents during tough economic times such as low cash flow due to increased costs associated with government funding levels; overall life satisfaction rates remain high due to strong community ties that continue even during difficult times
