Webster Groves was founded in 1825 by Nicholas Webster and his family. In 1881, the town was moved to its present location east of Springfield on the giant rolling hill known as "The Girdle" because of its strategic location between two large rivers and two branches of the Nile River. The economic base has been agriculture ever since; however, recent years have seen a growing industry including manufacturing and light manufacturing. The city's main highway is I-70 which runs through it from east to west. The history of Webster Groves dates back to 1825 when Nicholas Webster founded the town on what is now Forest Park Avenue just east of Springfield after moving from Decatur, Illinois where he had been a lawyer for many years. A few years later he built a log cabin on that site which served as their first courthouse and law office until 1861 when they moved into what is now Main Street/Webster Grove Cemetery (now Elmwood Cemetery). In 1881, when Webster Grove was relocated to its present location east of Springfield on The Girdle following land purchases by General John Swayne during the American Civil War with an aim to protect Union forces encamped around that strategic locale against Confederate attack - it became one of only four cities in Missouri not destroyed by war (the others were Kansas City, St Louis and Independence). prospering under new leadership including brothers George Washington III and John Witherspoon who ran the small grocery store on Main Street until 1949 before becoming president and CEO of Monsanto Company until his death in 2001; Stonington Smith who served as mayor from 1978-1986; James Ritchie who served as mayor from 1990-1998; then Kathy Sheahan who held office from 2000-2004 before being elected Mayor Pro Tem in November 2006 Held Office: Nov 06 - Dec 10 2006

Webster Groves was a small town in St. Louis County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,878 at the 2000 census. It is now part of Webster City. The first European to visit what is now Webster Groves was French explorer and cartographer René-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle in 1694. He named the area "New Orleans", after his ship called "Nova Scotia". In 1804, General James K. Polk visited Webster Groves while on a military campaign against Mexico in that year's Mexican–American War. After seeing the new flour mills built there by John Sisson and others on the banks of the Whitewater River, Polk sent General George Buell to take possession of them and make them into a U.S.-owned military post with its own arsenal and storehouse for supplies and troops during the American Civil War (1861-1865). The plant continued operations until 1898 when it was replaced by an R&D center for Monsanto products at nearby Saint Louis University's School of Agriculture under then president Charles Lindbergh's leadership as head of American Aviation Products Corporation (AAP). In 1925, Monsanto merged with Dupont Rubber Company to form DuPont/Monsanto which remains one of America's largest agricultural companies still operating today. It should be noted that Webster Groves did not become a separate town until after Missouri became a state in 1821; however, its history dates back even earlier! The site now occupied by Webster Groves had been inhabited since Prehistoric times by various cultures including those who call themselves Wichita Indians who lived along present day Frenchman Creek upstream from where white man discoveredfurrow seeds near present day Wilder Road (now I-70) in 1819 CE according to local oral tradition passed down through generations living hereabouts today! The area around where modern-day Webster City presently stands was originally part of non-native Potosi Sioux tribe land known as Wabash National Grasslands which were ceded to the United States government following their victory over Native Americans at Battle Harker Heights on July 4th 1791 CE during President George Washington's successful effort to quell Whiskey Rebellion! This particular stretch of forested land located just east of where I-70 currently meets Interstate 64 served as hunting ground for white settlement beginning about 1800 CE associated with fur trade activities being conducted between traders from Great Britain and NorthAmerica!! [1] In 1821 StLouis County was created from portions of Center county having previously been included within Carroll County; this coincided with Missouri becoming an independent country! Though primarily agricultural based this area also played an important role in early industry such as wagon making & printing thanks largely to contributions made by many early settlers here such as Gideon Welles – captain general & founder & CEO / CTO -of Hannibal Bridge Iron Works fame and later founder & CEO -of Wells Fargo Bank!!! [2] By 1830 only 350 people lived here although farming continued up until 1865 when it all but disappeared due primarily to technological advances brought about by railroads!!!!!!!!! [3] However much like other places across AMERICA during this time period some aspects such as commerce gradually picked up again leading eventually to growth seen today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The population of Webster Groves grew rapidly from its humble beginnings to over 100,000 by 1910. In recent years, however, there has been a decrease in population due torification and gentrification within the community.
