Webster Groves is a small town in Webster County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,880 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield–Jefferson City Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded in 1837 by John Webster and his family. The grove of trees on the banks of the White River were donated by Mr. Webster to secure a spot for farming purposes on his property. In 1852, the first post office was established in Webster Groves, and mail service began from Illinois to this small village. Today, Webster Groves is an historical landmark with a handful of businesses remaining along Main Street which flows through the heart of the community. The history of Webster Groves goes back many years before it became a municipality with its own government in 1907. When Mr. John Auld purchased land adjacent to what is now Main Street he named it after General James Murtaugh who fought for Missouri during the Mexican-American War (1846-48). General Murtaugh had been one of America's most distinguished military leaders and he left behind a legacy that extended to both society and commerce including donations towards education and public works projects throughout Missouri such as roads and bridges. The name "Murtaugh" stuck around until 1908 when it reverted back to "Webster". There are also several unique cultural artifacts remaining from early days like an old wagon wheel found at an excavation site on Third Avenue North about two miles east of town that belonged to pioneers David Brownell & Seth Cornell; this wagonwheel has become known locally as "the Websters Wheel" due to its resemblance! In fact, there are several interesting sites lying within walking distance or drive away from either downtown office park or Main Street which include: pioneer cemetery located off University Road Northeast; blacksmith shop on Fourth Avenue South next door to disbanded local grocery store called Joes'; former cotton gin/weaving mill located off US Highway 31 southeast of town; pioneer log house located at intersection of University Road Northeast & Stone Lane northeast corner;School House #1 (built ca 1840) - This school house originally served grades K thru 12th grade according’t white children but was used by black students starting in 1886 thru 1978 due’t prohibition laws forbidding teachers (& other citizens) from teaching colored kids In 1880 Mrs H C Weems donated 5 acre lot adjoining her home northeast corner School House #2 ( Built ca 1840) - This school house originally served grades 1st thru 8th grade but was converted into 3 story pre-war brick structure in 1938Mrs H C Weems gifted 5 acre lot adjoining her home northeast corner Schools closed circa 1957 With exception for 2nd high schoolwhich operated briefly during WWII before being shuttered permanently .Today Mrs H C Weems' heirs continue attending school through 9th grade

Webster Groves is located in Webster County, Missouri. The town was named for General John Webster and his family. The site of the current town was originally a small post office called Westville. In 1864, the Union Pacific Railroad built a mill here and renamed it Webster Grove. The mill closed in 1889, but the town kept its name. In 1916, the United States Post Office Administration changed the spelling of the town's name to Webster Groves after General James G. Webb Jr., who had served as military governor of Missouri at that time. The original mill building still exists and is used as a museum today. The townsite now includes several villages and a few homes dating back to before World War I. The main business district around the old post office is home to several businesses including three banks, two insurance companies, and a grocery store/cafeteria combo restaurant/bar/nightclub combination called "Nashoba". The population of Webster Groves increased rapidly during World War II due to soldiers stationed here on various combat missions such as Army Air Forces Base Camp Butler (later Lowry AFB) and Naval Air Station Lakehurst (later Lakehurst Naval Air Station). After the war, many new housing developments were built in what was then rural farmland surrounding downtown Webster Groves.
The Webster Groves neighborhood in Missouri is named after General George Washington, who was born and raised in the area. The grove of trees on the corner of Tenth and Randolph Streets was donated by General Washington's son, John Adams.
