Webster Groves is a community in St. Louis County, Missouri, United States. The population was 5,712 at the 2010 census. The origins of the community are unknown but it likely named for John Webster, an early settler in what is now Webster Groves. In 1819, Webster Groves had 1,814 residents and was part of the current Springfield Township. However, by 1825 there were only 693 residents and by 1830 only 406 residents remained. In 1833, the township was divided into two parts: Webster Groves was made a part of Springfield Township while the unincorporated community of Grove Heights became part of Overland Park Township. There were more people living in Grove Heights then in Webster Groves so it gradually lost its status as an independent town until 1951 when it reemerged as an incorporated municipality with its own government under the same name with a population over 7500 people currently living there. The first post office opened in 1865 and continued to serve until 1907; however, there was no mail service to Webster Groves from Independence or any other town until after World War I when on July 1st 1917 US Postal Service opened up their new route through Springfield which connected to Lakeshore Drive (now Mid-City Boulevard) just south of town making it possible for people living in different parts of St. Louis County to get their mail delivered directly to their homes without having to go through Springfield or Independence where they would then have to wait for someone else ( usually a carrier) to bring their mail back home before they could finally enjoy their package! Accordingly, many businesses started up around this time like groceries stores such as Safeway and Kroger etc., Post Office Boxes being built all throughout town which still exists today inside the old post office building off Mid-City Boulevard between South 8th Street and North Ninth Street - which has been vacant since 2001! Also during this time period many restaurants such as Jimmy John's Pizza began opening up all throughout town giving people an opportunity not onlyto shop local but also some great food options unavailable anywhere else near them! This trend continued throughout most of the 1970s 1980s 1990s 2000s even into recent years with various bar/restaurants popping up everywhere from Pieology favorite Pizzeria Bianco right down to Vietnamese restaurant Vo Nguyen Giap located just east of town on Interstate 65 - giving everyone another great option for food outside your normal grocery store or restaurant limited choices! Many small hotels started up too during this time including Holiday Inn Express next door on North Ninth Street opposite Safeway - which incidentally still stands today though renovated quite extensively! Today though things are slowly beginning to change again with several big construction projects starting up aroundtown such as MOBILE medical center & inner city stadium plans along with several large housing developments proposals including one being proposed for land adjacent to Union Station that would house almost 10 thousand people - marking once again how quickly St.Louis County has changed over these past few decades!!

In 1839, local farmers began to produce hay and corn on their farms around Webster Grove; this started what would become one of the most significant aspects of WebsterGroves' economy during its early years. After World War I, production of explosives increased as munitions manufacturers turned to county-owned land for their operations. With growth came social upheaval: several families moved into the community after acquiring donated land from farmer friends or from state officials eager to create new markets for their products. By 1920 only five businesses remained within downtown WebsterGroves limits; however, post-war growth led to twenty-five businesses by 1945. During Prohibition (1911-1920), small breweries served areas east of Florissant Avenue before prohibition ended production statewide that year; local brewers took advantage of this opportunity to begin manufacturing beer northeast of Florissant Avenue near where current Interstate 45 runs parallel to County Road 462 (which once connected Florissant Avenue with nearby Prairie Village). 2 million gallons were produced annually by these breweries between 1919 and 1933 when Prohibition ended nationwide; many products made from cornstarch which had been used extensively in brewing since before prohibition ceased enabled some people to avoid buying alcohol while still consuming starch foodstuffs not subject to excise taxes - something which would eventually lead to Prohibition being repealed nationwide
