In the early 1800s, Webster Groves was a small farming town in southern Missouri. It was located on the banks of the River Mississippi and had a population of just over 1,000 people. But by 1830, Webster Groves had become one of the most important towns in Jackson County due to its location on the fringes of what would later become St. Louis County. The arrival of railroads in 1836 and 1840 allowed for increased trade and business development in Webster Groves. This growth led to an increase in gun ownership and use throughout Jackson County. Gun magazines were first developed in Missouri during this time as a way to store firearms for defense purposes. At first, these magazines were used primarily for self-defense, but as guns became more popular throughout Missouri, they began to be used also for hunting and other targets (e.g., game animals). In 1852, when Webster Groves became part of St. Louis County, gun ownership further increased as handguns became more common among residents there (initially only white citizens could own firearms). Gun magazines continued to be developed throughout this period until around 1870 when they finally ceased operation completely in Missouri due to changes within that state's political landscape (in that year, slavery was abolished across much of Missouri). However, interest ingun magazine development continued outside of Missouri into the 1860s through various attempts at starting new editions or reprinting old issues (e.g., The Rifleman magazine started reprinting issue #1 from 1868 onwards). Ultimately though, it would be another two decades before gun magazines again began functioning regularly within Midwest United States communities

The town was founded by General James Webster in 1819 as a trading post on the confluence of the Blue and White rivers. After bequeathing his entire land to Webster Groves Township in 1835, General James Fenton laid out his plan for the town on what is now Main Street and Third Avenue. In 1839, when Webster's great-grandson erected Congress Hall (now part of downtown St. Louis), he named it after his ancestor, James Fenton Webster Sr., one of seven original settlers who had come with Captain John Butler to settle this region in 1777. In 1861, during the American Civil War, Confederate General Robert Ewell built a stockade around Fort Donelson on what is now Interstate 70 near present-day Webster Groves; within days Union forces had stormed and captured that fort and begun besieging Fort Donelson which resisted all attempts by Confederate forces to storm it until April 12th when they finally surrendered unconditionally after four hours' bombardment by Union troopships anchored offshore.. This event helped spur development along I-70 between then and today's WebsterGroves as many people from nearby cities drove into our small community to see what all the commotion was about.....the war hysteria continued until 1865 when both sides withdrew from further combat….. In 1898, Goodyear established their plant here; this helped solidify business interests here along with businesses such as AnheuserBusch which became an international giant over time…..After years of growth brought about by businesses like Goodyear and AnheuserBusch alike – including several major annexations including that of Gateway Mall – family farms gave way to more open space towards downtown….Today we continue to experience steady growth with almost 1 million residents within just ½ mile radius……This has led us through some tough times but also has given us something truly special: The sense that we are all connected through our community….We know that if anything happens to one member of our community – whether it’s a lost pet or a loved one gone too soon – everyone else can pull together to help cope as best they can…..

The first settlers in Webster Groves, Missouri were white Protestants from Pennsylvania. The town was founded in 1827 by General James Wilkinson and his wife Esther. Wilkinson named the town after himself, but it was renamed Springfield in 1838. The town experienced a period of growth during the 1830s and 1840s because of the fur trade and its location near the Illinois River. By 1851, Webster Groves had a population of 2,500 residents. In 1857, Webster Groves became a county seat of Porter County. By 1870, the population had grown to 10,000 residents. During World War I, Webster Groves played an important role as a munitions plant due to its location near Cairo, Illinois. After the war ended in 1918, the towns declined and lost their importance as manufacturing centers. However, since 2000 Webster Groves has seen significant revitalization with new businesses opening up and more people moving into the area
