The community was founded by a group of farmers in 1836 as Webster Village andnamed after John Webster, an American statesman and first U.S. Ambassador to France. The village grew rapidly due to the opening of the Kansas-Nebraska Railroad in 1849 and its growth into a small city by 1870. In 1893, the city's charter was amended to allow for township status which led to rapid growth until 1901 when it became an incorporated town with a mayor and council system. However, during World War II many residents left for military service and only 27% of the original population remained in 1945 when the war ended. Most of those who had stayed moved away again after the war ended but some new residents were born there including Bob Dylan (born December 14th 1943) who lived on Main Street until he moved away in 1978

Webster Groves is a small town in Jackson County, Missouri, United States. The population was 711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield, MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. Webster Groves was organized as a town on February 6, 1836, and named for Englishman John Webster. The first post office in Webster Groves was established on June 15, 1838. The townsite of Webster Grove lies within the boundaries of present-day Webster Groves. The name derives from the fact that most of the early settlers were Irish immigrants who came to Missouri in droves during the 1830s and 1840s looking for new homes and opportunities. One reason why this area received its name "Webster Grove" is because there were few trees available tochards or other fruit crops until after 1839 when a sawmill was built near what is now downtown Webster Grove and production began increasing significantly. In 1843 an Indian Removal Act forced many Native Americans living east of St Joseph River into western Jackson County where they were given land parcels measured in square miles rather than acreage which made it easier for white settlers to come by and start farming these areas away from their traditional Native villages. The first post office operated at what is now downtown Webster Grove from June 15, 1838 through May 1, 1840; it was renamed Union City on October 1, 1840 due to heavy demand for postal service following the organization of Kansas Territory During World War I (1914-18), German American troops stationed at Fort Riley garrisoned themselves in what is now downtown Webster Grove as part of their defense against possible attack by Mexico should war break out between Austria-Hungary and Russia In 1928 two brothers - Irving Henschel & Harry Papp - opened a grocery store at 9th Street & Locust Avenue which became known as Hecht's Department Store before being sold to J S Hecht in 1933 In 1951 invasive species such as grapevine needed Control & Prevention Station #1 opened along I-435 just south of downtown Wichita Falls Texas & soon afterwards another station opened north side along I-435 Business Loop also serving rural areas near here
