In the early 1800’s, Webster Groves was a small town in eastern Missouri. The town was founded by Quakers who were looking for a place to live and work without fear of being persecuted. The farmers in the area were not so keen on this idea and began to destroy the new town. In retaliation, the Quakers built an arsenal in their town and began producing ammunition. This ammo helped to defend against attacks from Native Americans as well as other enemies. It also allowed for further growth of the community and its economy. Webster Groves is a small town in the Ozarks of Missouri. The population was 1,699 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield-Plymouth, MO, Micropolitan Statistical Area. The Webster Groves post office was established in 1839, and operated until it was discontinued in 1904. The first store in Webster Groves was built by Elisha Webster and his wife Rebecca on Spring Street. They opened the store to sell groceries and other items necessary for a small community of just over 100 people. The Websters were responsible for developing many aspects of the town including its layout, infrastructure, and architecture which persists to this day. During World War II, Webster Groves served as an important military base due to its location near Carbondale and Springfield airports. In 1947, when Carbondale became an independent city, WebsterGroves annexed parts of Carbondale into its limits making it one municipality again with two post offices - one serving both towns although they are now considered separate entities administratively speaking. In recent years, much has changed within the boundaries of WebsterGroves as new housing developments have sprung up close to schoolgrounds and shopping centers making it difficult for residents to access their homes without becoming involved in politics or municipal disputes that often turn ugly. Despite this challenge though, many people continue to call their hometown home due to its unique atmosphere and unrivaled history

Webster Groves is a small city located in west-central Missouri, on the right bank of the Arkansas River. The population was 9,554 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield-Springfield metropolitan area. The first settlers in Webster Groves were farmers who arrived in 1821 from New York and Pennsylvania. They named their new community after Samuel Webster (1758-1835), an American lawyer and politician from Massachusetts who served as United States Secretary of State under President George Washington. The original town site was along a narrow stream that Hermann Wilhelm von Steuben called "Wabash." In 1824, the first post office was established at Webster Grove, and mail service began there three years later. In 1830, John Tilton erected a log cabin near what is now Main Street for his family's farmstead and trading store. One year later, he bought land adjoining his brother Amos' farm and laid out a town on it, naming it after himself – Webster Grove. By 1840, some eighty buildings had been erected within the limits of modern Webster Groves proper; by 1850, it had grown to 1,500 people. During the early years of this century, growing trade with Illinois brought many new residents to Webster Grove; among these were two brothers who founded General Electric Company: Abraham Van Doren (1851-1939) and David Sarnoff (1915-1998). Also during this time period were important milestones in local history: the construction of City Hall (1893), which replaced an earlier shotgun building used by pioneer merchants; and the dedication of Memorial Park (now known as Von Steuben Park) adjacent to City Hall in 1896 honoring American Revolutionary War veterans. This period saw also significant changes within local society: during World War I both men ran unsuccessfully for Congress as Democrats;Groves became reclusive when oil exploration ceased outside its boundaries following state prohibition;and white flight accelerated after World War II led to increased black migration into Missouri statewide
Webster Groves, Missouri was founded in 1837 by John Webster and his wife Catherine. The grove is named after the family's ancestor, Nicholas Webster. The first store in Webster Groves was built on the site of today's grocery store. In 1857, a post office was established at Webster Groves and remained in operation until 1915.
