These additions helped bolster the local economy while making it easier for residents to get around without too much hassle. In 1917, after World War I ended, President Woodrow Wilson decided that Webb City should become one of five cities located in Missouri along with Kansas City, Independence (later Jefferson), Springfield (later St Louis), Topeka (later Wichita) and Pawnee (later Ponca). This decision represented an important milestone in the town’s history as it marked the first time that Webb City had been chosen as an official city within Missouri. At this point in its history, WebbCity boasted a population size close to 3,000 people – larger than any other municipality in Missouri. However, despite all these successes – both statewide and locally – life quickly turned sour during World War II when many residents chose to enlist in service rather than face rationing or potential combat injuries. This combined with general economic depression during wartime made life difficult for businesses as well as individual citizens alike; however, some did manage to weather the storm nonetheless. With all this adversity however came also some great moments such as when Mayor Harry Cramer won election unopposed in 1944 after running against incumbent James Akins; or when Drue Ladd became mayor after winning an open seat in 1954 following her husband’s death earlier that year. During her tenure as mayor she led the city through several innovative projects such as creating a water system which now serves over 2 million customers daily; or building new roads and bridges which have helped improve traffic flow throughout downtown Webster Valley today!
