Webb City, Missouri is a small town in central Missouri that was founded in 1835. The community was named for Major General Samuel Webb of the Union army who fought in the Mexican-American War and the American Civil War. In 1864, Webb City became part of St. Louis County and later became a city within St. Louis County. In 2002, Webb City was renamed to honor Samuel Webb Jr., who also served as Mayor of Webb City from 1951 to 1959 and as a U.S. Representative from MO-3 from 1965 to 1967.

Webb City has a rich rifle history dating back to the 1800s. The first rifles in Webb City were made by Blacksmiths John and James Bowie. This early firearm toolmaking center is most well-known for its now-famous Bowie knife, which was used to sharpen rifles and pistols until the mid-19th century. In 1827, Webb City's first school was built and it served as the town's primary educational institution until 1903. In that year, Webb City became an incorporated city under Missouri state law. In 1904, the city voted to become a military reservation. That same year, Webb City also became home to the United States Military Academy at West Point. The academy would be closed in 1924 but reopened in 1927 as one of America's leading military universities. Webb City residents have been involved in rifle manufacturing since at least the 1840s when they began making firearms for local use. By 1860, Webb City had become known as "the Arsenal of Missouri." Many of these rifles were made for Confederate soldiers during the American Civil War because Union forces were occupying Missouri at that time. After the war, many of these weapons passed through hands before ending up in private hands throughout Missouri and even into neighboring states such as Arkansas and Texas
Webb City is a small town in the easternmost corner of Missouri, United States. The population was 2,623 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Rolla–Branson, MO Micropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2014-2015 American Community Survey, Webb City had a total population of 3,821 residents. The area that now Webb City was first settled by Methodists in 1836. A post office called Webb was established in 1849, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. The community took its name from General John Rhett Butler who fought for the Union during the Civil War and also served as an Indian agent for many years. In 1865, General Butler's widow donated land to create Webb City Park which still exists today as one of Rolla's most popular areas for recreation and shopping. Webb City has been home to numerous businesses over its history including a blacksmith shop, a grocery store, two banks (the first opened in 1892), several churches (including St Phillip’s Episcopal Church which is still standing today), and three schools -one public school (1893), one private school (1896), and one Baptist School (1902). The most recent addition to this long list of businesses is Wheeler's Health & Fitness which opened its doors on October 1st 2016 within spitting distance of both local hospitals as well as Interstate 44! What once were just small stores are now complete restaurants with outdoor seating that accommodate up to 350 guests!
