Washington, Missouri's first municipally-owned armory was opened in 1868. It was located on the corner of State and Second Streets. The armory became a state-owned arsenal in 1923. In 1941, the United States Signal Corporation bought the armory for $2,500 from the city of St. Louis. It served as a testing ground for new weapons technology before it was mothballed in 1960. The original building still stands, but is now used as a museum. The Washington Armory Museum offers exhibits on weapon flashlights and their history in Missouri. There is also a small collection of rifles and shotguns at the museum.

Washington, Missouri is a city in Boone County, Missouri, United States. The population was 8,811 at the 2010 census. The first settler in what is now Washington was George Armstrong Capps who came to the area early in 1819. He named his land "Washburne" after General James Washburne of the Union Army who fought at Bull Run during the American Civil War. A post office was established at Washburne in 1827, and by 1830 it had reached its present location. In 1836, Wofford Sibley erected a log cabin on what became known as "Sibley's Hill." Wofford Sibley became one of the most successful farmers in Washington Township and also served as an Alderman from 1840 to 1848 and as Representative from 1851 to 1861. In 1865, when Missouri became a state, Washington Township was added to Boone County. In 1870 it had a population of 1,500 people; by 1880 it had grown to 4,000 people and by 1900 it had reached 10,000 people full time). By 1920 there were over 25 churches and 12 schools operating within Washington Township alone (the only township with this kind of enrollment), many operated out of rented space or shared barns or buildings with neighboring townships such as Lebanon (to the northwest) and Holland (to the southwest). During World War II much production took place withinWashingtonTownship near Mount Vernon because that is where munitions plants were located across town on Higgins Road; these sites remain today but are used for various purposes including agriculture (for example Hopkins Farms), warehousing (Bellevue Yards), manufacturing (Lamborghini has its plant here), and testing for missiles etc.. On December 7th 1944 Allied forces landed ashore on Utah Beach after crossing Lake Champlain into New York State; due to intense artillery fire Hollywood Studios set up shop around mile marker 6 on beaches just east of US Highway 41 which runs through downtown Omaha then processed shells all night until supplies ran low resulting in almost 100 casualties along with more than 50% loss rate for planes shot down... More than 400 buildings were destroyed or damaged directly or indirectly during WWII including 175 movie sets! Washington, Missouri was a small town in central Missouri from the early 1800s until the mid-19th century. It became a center of cotton production and commerce due to its location on the Mississippi River. The town developed around two cotton plantations, Washington and Bellefontaine. In 1814, Washington was renamed for George Washington, Commander in Chief of the United States during the Revolutionary War. The town continued to grow through the 1830s and 1840s as more people moved there from eastern Missouri. By 1849, much of Washington had been destroyed by fire and Reconstruction began in that year. After years of struggle, Washington regained its prosperity by 1860 and became an important stop on the Underground Railroad during the Civil War. In 1865, it was made a city under new municipal laws which promoted industrial development. By 1870, however, most of Washington had been destroyed by fire again and its economy declined thereafter. However, because it is located along one of America's major river routes it retains a significant presence in local history today.

The land that is now Missouri was part of Virginia at the time and it was not until 1821 that Missouri became a territory of the United States. In 1829, Kansas Territory was created from parts of Missouri. In 1861, when Confederate sympathizers took up arms against the Union, Kansas seceded from the Union and became an independent state called Kansas City. On January 15, 1865, Abraham Lincoln was assassinated in Springfield, Illinois, leading to a general civil war in America known as The Civil War. After years of fighting and Reconstruction efforts were successful in restoring order in America, President John F Kennedy declared an end to hostilities on July 6, 1968.
