The LipanApache were killed or driven off and the American forces emerged victorious. Wilkinson was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his actions in this encounter.

Washington was a small town in Boone County, Missouri until the early 1920s when it became the capital of the United States. The town was founded by George Washington and his family in 1811 as a stop on their route from St. Louis to Independence. Washington grew slowly until it had a population of about 350 people in 1825. In 1831, Washington became the seat of government for all of Boone County and its growth continued as other counties were annexed into the state during the 1830s and 1840s. In 1851, Washington was renamed Washington City after President James K. Polk which helped increase its population to 1,500 by 1870. The city experienced rapid growth during the late 19th century with an influx of immigrants from Eastern Europe and Russia who worked in agriculture or mine-building. By 1910, however, most residents had left for various reasons including political unrest in Ohio and Kansas following Territorial expansion under President Ulysses S. Grant that year; economic opportunities associated with railroads; or conflicts over land titles developed around new bourgeoning towns such as Columbia (Kansas) and Topeka (Kansas). Rapid progress occurred again during World War II when many citizens relocated to military housing areas such as Fort Bliss (Texas) or Omaha Beach (France), but thereafter Spokane declined rapidly in population while Washington City stagnated farther behind due largely to lack of development interest within its borders throughout most of the 20th century despite periodic efforts by local officials to bring attention to its plight through public education campaigns and legislation designed specifically targeting Washinton City’s unique situation relative to other rural communities across Missouri’s six-county region experiencing similar declines in population between 1940-1960 (−1 percent per decade). However, recent advances have shown renewed interest within Washinton City authorities among local developers interested in reviving its former prominence as both a center for culture and commerce within rural Missouri’s large agricultural belt spanning east-west Kansas through west-southwest Illinois with significant concentrations near Springfield (+14 percent per decade since 1980), Jefferson City (+20 percent since 1990), Columbia (+27 percent since 2000), Hannibal (-8 percent annually) – all port cities along one major waterway – making it possible once again for Washinton City authorities to experience sustained population growth rates higher than those found at any other site outside this agricultural corridor over this period despite occasional setbacks caused by changing demographics or vagaries beyond their control such as Ruston (−4 percentage points per decade since 1990) becoming an independent city status rather than part of Jefferson City ±6 percentage points more annually than found at any other site outside this agricultural corridor between 1940‐1960 Washington first rose to national prominence under George Washington because he was able to create a successful government system based on innovation that relied on trees grown inside presidential Mansion walls instead of imported lumber - something no other U.S president had been able To do before him!
