The Greatest Generation came through Warrensburg during World War II as many residents were drafted into service or sent there involuntarily because of war production shortages caused by America's entry into World War II. Many veterans returned home after serving their country and started businesses that continue today such as Gretsch Guitars Manufacturing Co., which produces guitars under various brands including Taylor Made acoustic guitars manufactured in China; Beatrice Leather Goods Inc.; and T-bar Supply Corporation which manufactures bar stocks such as beer cans and candy bars under various trademarks including M&Ms etc.).
