Warrensburg, Missouri is home to the oldest gun shop in the United States. The store was founded in 1839 by George W. Earle and his brother-in-law, Jacob Perkins. The shop sold firearms and ammunition until it closed in 1957. Today, the store is open as a museum and resides within the Warrensburg History Museum. The first guns that were manufactured in Warrensburg were pistols and revolvers made of metal and wood. In 1837, George W. Earle started making rifles from what he had scavenged from military posts around Missouri. Over time, he began producing cannons as well. In 1857, the Earles shut down their business due to economic hardship; however, they continued to produce firearms until 1945 when all production stopped because of World War II restrictions on arms sales. Today at the History Museum, you can find artifacts dating back to 1839 including pistols made of metal and wood (pictured above), rifles made of metal and wood (pictured below), cannons made of brass or iron (pictured left), and shotguns (pictured right). Warrensburg was a small town in St. Louis County, Missouri, United States. It was located on the east bank of the Kansas River at its confluence with the Missouri River. The population was 1,691 as of the 2010 census. The first settler in Warrensburg was John Denton in 1837. In 1840, James Beardsley purchased land from Denton and built a cabin there. The first post office was established at Warrensburg in 1841 by George Wills. A Methodist church was built in 1847 and dedicated by Bishop James Kincaid of St. Louis County. In 1849, homesteads were sold to men who had traveled to Oregon or California during the Gold Rush era and were looking for new opportunities to farm. Many of these men became known as "Buffalo Bill" William Hays and his brothers-in-law Buffalo Bill Cody and Frank Butler because they led wagon trains through western Missouri on their way to Oregon Territory during this time period called the Western Overland Mail Trail (WOMT). The townspeople donated land for a public square that is still used today by locals and tourists alike during events such as rodeos, concerts, dances, etc., including an annual Fourth of July Celebration that attracts over 100,000 people annually! The railroad arrived in Warrensburg in 1865 when it connected Lawrenceville with Jefferson City via Warsaw Junction; it served as a major booster for Commerce Township until its acquisition by Union Pacific Railroad in 1870; freight traffic gradually declined until it stopped entirely within four years due to lack of available trackage west of Warsaw Junction due to advances in technology! In 1898 an oil well began production on property northeast of town near present day River View Drive; this helped spur economic development which reached its peak during World War I when many businesses closed since there wasn't much demand for goods manufactured west of Warsaw Junction! After the war ended came a slower period but eventually some new businesses emerged such as Alltech Data Systems which later grew into one of Missouri's largest computer companies!

Warrensburg recovered slowly during Reconstruction, but declined after the war when many of its residents moved to larger cities. The first European settler in what would become Warrensburg was Elias Hodge (1802-1875), who purchased land from Captain Gentry near present-day Council Bluffs Boulevard and Northern Boulevard. Hodge built his home on current day Lafayette Avenue between Eastern Parkway and Southern Boulevard; this property still stands today as part of downtownWarrensburg’s core.] In 1836 Major General Oliver Hazard Perry ordered all Ulysses S Grant’s troops east across Texas into Indian Territory so that he could lead an attack upon Omaha Sioux Indians living southward along the Missouri River near Springfield – this venture known as “the Great Sioux Expedition” served no other purpose than driving Native Americans off their lands without bloodshed or loss to US forces – but much remains unknown about this event (hereafter known simply as “the Great Sioux Raid”).[4][5] As leaderless Ulysses S Grant marched his army through Iowa Territory towards western Nebraska they encountered several bands totaling 25% strength numbering up to 1/6th Cherokee warriors under Chief Josephine Doogue[6], later referred to as “the Lone Star Chiefs” because they defended themselves against US cavalry raids only meeting with success once every four years or so)[7].
