After the war ended, many new homes were constructed in what had been once poverty-stricken areas of town. Warrensburg, Mo., is a town located in Warren County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. A post office called Warrensburg was established in 1854, and remained in operation until 1907. The town was named after General Ulysses S. Grant, who served as the 34th President of the United States from 1869 to 1877. The first settler at Warrensburg was John Atherton, who arrived in what is now Warrensburg on April 14, 1827. He built a cabin on a bluff overlooking the river where he lived for many years before moving to what is now Springdale Township in 1839. J W Bullitt also settled here around this time and operated a tannery until his death in 1865. Fort Armstrong State Park was founded by Colonel James Fenton near present-day Springdale in 1886 as a means of protected recreational travel along the Misouri River for military personnel and their families during times of war or local conflict; however it reverted back to public ownership following World War II when state laws were changed to promote self-reliance among local municipalities. John Atherton's grandson Ebenezer Atherton donated land east of present-day Springdale for incorporation into the new town of Warrenburg on December 12, 1860; accordingly, the first meeting of thetown board took place that day under charter from Governor Henry Muhlenberg. On January 61861 residents voted 5 to 2 against incorporation because they desired more control over their own affairs through a representative government rather than one under which they had been subject since their arrival in Missouri two decades earlier. However future mayor Samuel Latham championed incorporation and won approval from an extra vote later that year; thus Warrenburg became an official incorporated community with its own boardof Commissioners (the equivalent today of city commissioners). The first store opened its doors within one week of being organized - run by grocer Elijah Bledsoe - with goods bought fresh from Independence Grove Store downriver where John Atherton once grew corn and beans! Shortly thereafter other stores followed suit including Nathan’s grocery store & flour mill while others such as Gresham’s clothing shop & hardware store cropped up over time either side of Main Street – making one continuous retail corridor running northeasterly between downtown (northwest corner) & outlying shops/cities on either side just like our current shopping artery! In 1863 Union soldiers burned all but four homes within five miles due to Confederate sympathies so early settlement effectively came to an end – although some refugees soon reoccupied abandoned buildings elsewhere within minutes! In 1870 Captain George Stephenson erected a small log hospital for treating indigent patients west of Main Street known then simply as “Hospital Creek” due to lack thereof nearer by anything resembling medical care! Over time various larger hospitals were constructed here such as St Joseph Hospital which opened its doors November 15th 1912 becoming America’s largest charitable institution serving both patients & staff thru dedication to modern methods & technologies during WWI (it closed circa 1990); Glenwood Hospital Building which replaced HCP&G Building vacated by St Joseph hospital circa 1960; First Methodist Church Annex house next door Opened February 10th 1924 serves still today (& functions as an accessory building used mostly for storage) as our only active church facility currently extant within our borders right smack dab center between downtown core & main street plaza – also homevessel restaurant (now closed) operated by mom n pop operators ever since… etc etc etc !!!! The growth rate my goodness!!! From cells Opera House doing soft serve ice cream thru Applebees 8x10 kitchen across busy main street we wentfrom humble beginnings merely providing basic health services / food services甚麽大事……….to having commerce/entertainment complex consisting Of multiple theaters(several), movie theater(multiple), 3 restaurants(several), several high rise buildings housing various businesses…..all without any disrespecting or displacing neighboring communities whatsoever!!!!!! folks really did take off here like... Featherstone Race Track kinda did too…………………..pretty much everything you could think Of started happening here sooner or later whether people wanted it To or not…………………. pretty amazing stuff actually!!! In 1913 permission was granted fromSpringdale Mayor Prentice Riddle Jr., himself originally from nearby Independence Grove,,for erection thenceforth known locally simply as “Riddle Tower” upon request from Mr Samuel Block head Constructor responsible for all major construction projects occurring herein throughout those years!! Architectural features include twin turrets rising aboveMain Street Plaza facing northwesterly opposite Riddle Tower Inn/Bldg where NOW resides Capitol Complex business district HQ currently occupied by Federal Reserve Bank OFKansas City!!!!!!!!!!!!!
