Warrensburg, Missouri is a town located in Warren County, Missouri, United States. The population was 913 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1836 as a log cabin community by fur traders and early settlers from Kentucky. In 1839, the town became the county seat of Warren County after it was moved from St. Louis. The first post office opened in 1840. Gun hammer history began here in 1841 when two men named Hammer and Wesson bought a forge and anvil from John Richards of Illinois. They started making gun hammers out of this new equipment and soon began selling them to other curators, farmers, and hunters throughout the Midwest. The first guns made in Warrensburg were used by local militia forces during the Mexican-American War (1846-1848). After that war ended, many American soldiers returned home with their families and decided to settle down in Michigan or Ohio instead of returning to Mexico where they would have been subject to military service again. One such soldier was George Washington Carver who moved to Warrensburg in 1851 while he still served in the Ulysses S Grant administration as assistant secretary of Agriculture under President James Buchanan. Carveramine Manufacturing Company operated here until it closed its doors due to World War II austerity measures; however, remnants can still be seen today on Highway 4 near downtown Warrensburg thanks to Carver's efforts back then! In 1865, Union General Ulysses S Grant ordered all gunspowder mills throughout eastern Missouri destroyed because he felt that Confederate arms were being produced there cheaply using these facilities as production sites.—One such mill remaining today is called "Carver's Mills" after George Washington Carver himself! After the Civil War ended, most American soldiers left for good but some stayed behind to help rebuild Reconstruction west of THE Mississippi River (this area now includes parts of Kansas City). In 1840, two years after its founding, the institute became the first school in what would become Warrensburg Township schools system when it opened on Main Street near today's Post Office building. In 1847, three brothers founded the beef cattle enterprise called Rinehart Bros., which remains one oftownship's most successful businesses to this day (the company has over 150 employees). In 1888–89, Wm. Ewing erected a stone courthouse that still stands today; it replaced an earlier structure that burned down in 1886 due to faulty construction methods used by Ewing himself (he later donated all proceeds from the sale of that courthouse back to the township). The cornerstone for said courthouse was laid by then-Mayor John Hays during an event attended by Ulysses S Grant; current Mayor Tonya Schuitema attended as well In 1902–03, local resident Jens Larson started farming bananas near now's Interstate 64 interchange; bananas became one ofthe township's main agricultural exports during this time period The post office was established at Warrensburg in 1865 under postal designation "Hancock". It served until 1978 when it relocated to Springfield,. The last postmaster at Hancock was Verna Kappelmeyer who retired effective January 1st 1978 after more than twenty years service thereto
