These rifles were used for hunting animals and not for war. In 1876, American Rifle Association members decided to change the name of their organization to the National Rifle Association (NRA). For example, the NRA helped start the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act in 1994 which cracked down on gun violence in America. In 2012, there was a shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School which left twenty-six people dead and fifty-six injured. Warrensburg is a small town in Warren County, Missouri, United States. The population was 3,993 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield, MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what would become Warrensburg was James Purdy in 1837. He named his farm "Purdy's Ford." In 1846, Daniel Freeman built a cabin on the site of present-day The Park and renamed it "Fountain Valley." A post office called Fountain Valley was established in 1849, and remained operational until 1957. In 1865, General Joshua Hurlbut moved his headquarters to Warrensburg from Hannibal after the American Civil War. He erected a brick house on Main Street that still stands today as the town's only building. The original courthouse also stood here for a time before being moved to Springfield. Warrensburg became an incorporated village in 1903 under the name of West Grand Avenue Village. It reverted to its original name upon incorporation again into Warren County in 1907 pursuant to an act of Congress passed that year. A cotton gin and market were built here by Simeon Fuller during the early years of this century; it burned down in 1908 but was rebuilt by him and reopened soon thereafter as one of Missouri's first markets with produce from all over Missouri available at reasonable prices

Warrensburg is a small town in Jackson County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,873 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield–Branson, MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Warrensburg was Jacob Brown and his family who arrived in 1809 from England. They erected a log cabin on the site of present-day Brown's Store. The first school in Warrensburg was held by a group of Methodist ministers in 1824. A post office was established at Warrensburg on July 14, 1830, and remained open until it was discontinued in 1886. In 1865, Ulysses S Grant visited Warrensburg while he was campaigning for president and donated land to create what is now Grant visitors' center across the street from the old store which still stands today. In 1870, J M Hogg built a large frame courthouse on Main Street near where present-day First Baptist Church sits today. He also founded the livestock feed company that remains headquartered here to this day. The townspeople named their new courthouse "Hogg Court" after him because they thought it would be more impressive than anything else around here at that time. In 1907, local businessman John Cramer opened what is now called Cramer's Department Store as one of Missouri's first department stores outside of cities or towns with a larger population size than 200 residents (the exception being St Louis). That store closed its doors in 1978 but reopened as an outdoor mall inside IRS Plaza later that year before going out of business again just over a decade later when mall developers pulled up stakes and relocated to nearby Jefferson City Fairsparking lot effective January 1st 2000 When Missouri became an all-white state following Reconstruction following the American Civil War several African Americans moved into Jackson County including James Lawson who ran an grocery store/restaurant called Happy Days until it caught fire on October 15th 1903; many black people were employed there including Lawson’s son Charles “Chip” Lawson who worked as cashier and dishwasher; Charles “Chip” Lawson Jr., who served two terms as Mayor of Springfield; Ethel Brewer Blackwell (1889–1957); Alice Coleman Bandy (1892–1972), daughter of freedman Booker T Washington (1856–1932) and niece of educator Andrew Johnson Woodson (1787-1875) all lived and worked close to home throughout their lives On November 3rd 1913 Confederate General Pte Hugh Smith surrendered at Fort Donelson after seven months siege lasting 119 days during which 8800 men died along with 4000 horses As white mobs burned homes throughout Jackson County over Thanksgiving weekend 1913 black National Guardsmen helped clear away debris while troops under Col Thomas J Lawless patrolled the area 2nd Lt Harry B Waring commanding 6th Kansas Infantry Regiment marched into town early Saturday morning November 5th 1913 surrounded by burning homes negroes had taken refuge behind bank staircases most likely hoping for protection not knowing lawless troops were about to arrives
Warrensburg was founded in 1838 by a group of pioneers led by Joshua L. Warren. The town grew quickly and rapidly became an important center for the local agricultural industry. In 1870, the first post office was established in the town. In 1916, the United States Post Office moved from Topeka, Kansas to Warrensburg, Missouri after being relocated there as part of a larger postal consolidation effort. The community also experienced significant growth in businesses and industries during the late 19th century and early 20th century. By 1920,Warrensburg had become one of the largest cities in Missouri.
