The Warrensburg Rifle and Pistol Club was organized in 1871. The club was originally named the "Gatling Gun Club." In 1875, the club changed its name to the "Warrensburg Rifle and Pistol Club." The club became a part of the National Rifle Association in 1903. The rifle range in town was established in 1907. The cannon range opened in 1911. In 1916, the Warrensburg pistol club changed its name to the "Warrensburg Pistolry Club." In 1921, the rifle range closed because of World War II. In 1948, the pistols range reopened under new management and again became a part of the NRA. The rifle range closed again in 1990 due to budget cuts by local government. In 1993, a group of citizens led by Mayor Jim “Doc” Hickey purchased and rehabilitated an old cannon from former owner Driggs Manufacturing Company on Main Street in downtown Warrensburg for use as a community shooting gallery known as “The Cannon House” which is open to all residents for free admission every day from 9am-1pm from May 1 through September 15th inclusive!

Warrensburg, Missouri is a small town in northeastern Missouri, United States. The population was 8,823 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield-St. Louis metropolitan area. Warrensburg was founded in 1831 by Colonel John Gentry and his wife Rebecca Randolph Gentry on the east side of the James River. The first settler in what is now Warrensburg was Nathaniel Shute, who built a log cabin in 1836. The town grew rapidly after railroads were built through the region in the 1840s, and by 1860 it had over 10,000 residents. In 1865, when Union General Ulysses S Grant invaded Missouri to conquer that state's Radical Republican government and install Federal rule, he stopped at Warrensburg on his way to Springfield. There he met German immigrant Oscar Wirthlin—the son of a Swiss-born fur trader—and decided to move westward into Kansas instead of fighting for the Confederacy. On July 14, 1870, Wirthlin filed with U.S. Customs officials at Omaha Beach for passage onto American soil as an alien seeking asylum under Section 11(a) of the Immigration Act of 1868 ( 34 Statutes at L 511). After long delays due to high demand from applicants from war-torn Europe and other parts of America,[1] Wirthlin finally received permission to enter on November 7th.[2] He embarked on board USS President George Washington (CGN 10) bound for New York City but was delayed when a storm caused damage toPresident Washington's engine room[3]. Upon arrival at New York City on January 4th 1870,[4], Wirthlin applied for admission as an alien under Section 11(a) of the Immigration Act which allowed him only temporary residence within this country “for such time as may be necessary for carrying out his claim or protection” (34 Statutes at L511). The town of Warrensburg was founded in 1851 by John and Rebecca Warren. The town grew quickly, and by 1865 it had a population of over 100 people. In 1870, the Union Pacific Railroad came to Warrensburg, and soon the town became an important transportation hub for the area. By 1880,Warrensburg had become a small city with a population of around 350 people. However, by 1920, the city had shrunk to just under 200 people. In 1940, the city was placed within Jefferson County, Missouri.
