Warrensburg is a small town located in Warren County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1824 and named for General Samuel J. Warren. The town has since grown to include a downtown area and several smaller villages. Warrensburg, Missouri, was the home of one of the most infamous gunfights in American history. On July 26, 1864, Confederate forces under General Robert E. Lee attacked a Union garrison at Fort Donelson. The battle lasted three days and led to the death of more than 200 soldiers and civilians. During the battle, Union troops wore uniforms with different colors to distinguish them from the Confederate troops. In order to avoid being shot by Confederates while they were wearing uniforms of another color, some Union troops began using clothing made from cotton twill instead of linen in order to reduce their chances of being identification as white men caught up in a civil war fought by people of different races. On July 26th, 1861, Warrensburg's first post office opened its doors. The town had only two residents when it did so; Wm Halsey and his wife Emma. By 1865, Warrensburg had 3 businesses; a general store (1862), an insurance office (1865), and a farmstead near where today's high school is located (1868).
Warrensburg, Missouri is a small town in the Ozarks region of Missouri. The population was 6,539 at the 2000 census. It is part of Jefferson County. The community was named for General Ulysses S. Grant and his wife Julia Ward Howe, who were both from Warrensburg, Kansas. The first settler in Warrensburg was Enoch Bateson on July 12, 1836. In the early days there were no schools in the area so many people went to nearby Hannibal to learn about school while they worked their farms orchards or mines. There was a post office here since October 1, 1838 until May 3, 1865 when it closed because of the Civil War. In 1870 there were only 109 residents living in Warrensburg; by 1900 it had grown to over 6,539 people including 910 farmers and ranchers making up ninety-six percent of its population. Today’s economy is based on agriculture with some Manufacturing activity as well as retail trade and service sectors employing around 350 personnel including 50% women workers at local businesses such as L&L Tire & Depot which has been familyrun for eighty years and now employs over 500 people across seventeen departments including: automotive parts manufacturing ( led by Partenok), health care support services ( led by Wellmark Health Services), food processing (led by Pinnacle Foods) and administrative support services (led by First National Bank). With an average growth rate of 2%.

Gunsmiths soon began producing handguns using handguns’ own grips instead ofanimal hides. These handguns were called “referee pistols” because they were designed for use by referees during sporting events such as football or soccer tournaments (the official scorer provided the guns). Pistol production increased with the development of metallic-framed pistols such as Colt’s Model 1851 revolver and Ruger Mark III revolvers—two models which became popular among law enforcement officers due to their large barrel size (28 inches) and low recoil forces
