As a result, many buildings in the community are still used today including the Armory (a National Historic Landmark), Municipal Building (which served as both town hall and jail before being replaced by a courthouse in 1984), Kane County Courthouse (built 1889), Methodist Church (founded 1862), Schoolhouse No. 1 (1793), Presbyterian Church (1884) and BaptistChurch (£ 1860).[3][4][5] The community also features several parks including Park Square Park which contains two baseball diamonds,[6] Hagemeister Park[7] which features walking trails through dense forested areas adjacent to Lake Erie,[8] Market Square[9] home to several restaurants,[10][11][12][13][14] as well as Community Center where performances are held each year on Valentine's Day[15], along with displays celebrating various aspects of local history such as local livestock raising operations or Indian Wars.[16]
