University City is an unincorporated community in Jo Daviess County, Missouri, United States. The population was 2,711 at the 2010 census. It is located east of Interstate 55 and north of Missouri State Route 5. University City is part of the St. Louis metropolitan area. The first settler in University City was John Brinkerhoff, who arrived in 1836. He founded a log cabin on the site now known as the First Presbyterian Church. A post office called University City was established in 1854, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1906. A school named after Drury College founder James K. Polk was opened in 1871 by Rev. Jno Williams and Drury trustees Wm Bowen and Geo Fenton Jr.. The first white students were enrolled on September 1, 1872 when William Henshaw and his family came to town from Illinois (now Chicago). In 1889, for financial reasons led by merchant George Prentice, the college sold land to become what is now US-412 south of campus; this road became known asaddleback street because saddleback cattle had been used for transportation there since before that time. In 1971 the university bought back all but 4 acres from Prentice's heirs; today that land forms one block off US-412 across from Storrs Hall on Douglas Street near where West Union High School used to be located before it moved to its current location next door (see photo below). In 1907 president Josiah Bartlett decided that UWC should build a new administrative building which would house both male and female student bodies side by side instead of scattered throughout various buildings on campus like then-current mode; funds were raised through a mass appeal campaign which also saw participation by local businesses including grocery stores along with contributions from many members of Congress including future UWC President Harry Byrd III After much construction work completed over two years (1908-10), Bartlett’s master Plan for University City appeared finally ready for occupancy on October 14th 1910 during ceremonies presided over by Mayor Abram Goodwin with Mrs Capps serving as chairwoman of planning committee . chaired by future Governor Winfield Scott Woodson . Today’s brick front facade can still be seen looking out onto Main Street just past Administration Building following plans drawn up during remodeling phases following World War II . In 1836, Nicholas-Jacques Conte published "Le Lubricateur" (The Lube-Maker), which was the first book on gun lubrication. In this book, Conte described three basic types of oils: compounded vegetable oil (CVO), mineral oil (MILO), and synthetic oil (SO). He also noted that it was necessary to use a proper tool to properly lube a gun, and that too much or improper lube could cause damage to the firearm. subsequent books followed suit with more detailed descriptions of various oils and their properties. Over time, different manufacturers developed their own proprietary formulations of Gun Lubricants, often incorporating ingredients not found in other oils.
