University City, Missouri (UCM) is a city in Gallatin County,Missouri. The population was 11,711 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Gallatin County. UCM is part of the St. Louis metropolitan area. The city was founded in 1855 as a small town on the banks of the Missouri River by farmers who desired to reduce travel time to St. Louis from their surrounding counties. The town rapidly grew and by 1865 had been renamed University City after its first graduate, Drury University, which had opened in nearby Independence that year. By 1870 UCM had become one of the largest cities in Missouri and led an important growth spurt in rural areas immediately adjacent to it; this trend continued into the 20th century with rapid annexations by other municipalities until UCM's current borders were established in 2007. In 1907 Chancellor William Hickey purchased 1/4 acre (0.20 km2) near campus for $1,000 and donated it to be used as a faculty housing complex called "Hickey Park". US Steel Corporation bought much of downtown during World War II and built factories on parts of campus known as "The Arsenal" which still stand today including two large steel mills and numerous smaller ones (including one now occupied by Checkers restaurant). During peacetime UCM has experienced significant apartment development but steady job growth over recent decades has kept primary residences largely within central business district boundaries although some newer developments have arisen around state Routes 61 and 63 commuter lanes just east of downtown (accessible only through traffic circles). UCM’s strong economy has drawn students from throughout Missouri and beyond; since 2002 there have been more than 12,000 undergraduate students from out-of-state schools living on or near campuses here at any given time – making UCM one of the most diverse universities in America! Today’s student body comes together through vibrant community events such as poetry readings, music festivals, summer camps & dances/fairs etc., all while maintaining close relationships with home communities both inside and outside our university walls!

University City is a city in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. The population was 2,611 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1854 as a small community on the banks of the Kansas River by farmers from what is now Webster County. In 1880, University City became part of the newly created St. Louis metropolitan area and lost its independence. By 1920, however, University City had regained some of its autonomy and became an important educational center within the metropolitan area. Today, University City remains a major cultural and economic center within St. Francois County and one of the larger cities in Missouri. The town of University City was founded by farmers from Webster County on the banks of the Kansas River in 1854. The name "University" was chosen to mean "a seat for learning." The original school building was built soon after settlers arrived and served as a religious academy until 1869 when it became known as Mount Pleasant Academy; it later served as Normal School before becoming UniversityCity High School in 1907-1910. In 1870, Charles Goodyear organized three men who were granted land north of present-day University City on which he laid out Kellyville Farms to raise cattle for export to Chicago; this site would become home to Goodyear's Rubber Company headquarters when it moved there in 1901). When goodyear died in 1865 his estate sold all but two acres (0 ha) of his holdings to John Davenport Sr., founder and first president of Truman College (now Truman State UNIVERSITY). From this base Davenport developed many local businesses including: Davenport Lumber Company (1872-1893), Goudreau & Brody Furniture Merchanty (1892-1901), Dodge Brothers Grocery Merchantship (1900-1912), Jardine Coal Mines Incorporated (1920s), American Meat Packers Association Warehouse Corporation (1920s) In 1880, Union Pacific Railroad reached Interstate 70 just east of present day URCA campus; with this new transportation link came increased trade between St Louis and surrounding counties through Union Station located adjacent to I-70/I-435 interchange near MO 63/MO 66 junction east of today's campus off I-435 southbound lanes only minutes' walk from downtown Saint Francois Counties CBD – making Urca one stoplight away from world class shopping opportunities available only minutes' walk away! This increase in trade not only led to jobs being created but also saw university students coming from throughout Missouri Valley towns like Hannibal or Springfield seeking courses offered at Urca! Unfortunately during World War II much student enrollment dwindled due To wartime military production restrictions placed on universities across America resulting in faculty teaching at home rather than conducting research or providing instruction! In 1927 Drury Wagon Works began operations producing wagons for Ford Motor Company; these landmark products continued until discontinued by Ford about 1975 In 1951 Lamar Advertising Agency opened its doors with advertising space inside RCA Victor Studios right next door housing then Columbia Records audio companies such as Decca Records / British Invasion Productions etc.; future stars such as Elvis Presley started their musical careers with backing music provided by Lamar while also working here including recording his first album Sun King Blues In 1969 UTICA closed its doors after more than 50 years serving undergraduate students grades 9th thru 12th Today Urca continues play host to various events year round including concerts by top local artists along with handson programming on various campuses throughout MUVC valley

Today, University City is home to numerous cultural attractions such as art galleries, theaters and museums; professional athletes; and international diplomats.
