However, despite these challenges over the yearsUniversity City has seen some impressive recoveries such as multiple housing construction projects which have helped bring much needed life back to downtown areas between 1984-2004; recovery efforts following a tornado that struck on August 20th 2003; and reestablishment of downtown retail districts following Hurricane Katrina which caused extensive damage both inside and outside of campus buildings
