Troy, Missouri is a small town located in the Ozarks region of southern Missouri. The population was 5,753 at the 2010 census. Troy is part of the Hannibal-St. Louis Metropolitan Statistical Area. The inhabitants are primarily farmers and ranchers who also grow hay, corn, soybeans, and other crops. The town was founded by Abram Ivey in 1836 as a trading post on the Arkansas River between Shawneetown and Purdy. In 1839, Ivey erected a log cabin on the site of today's Troy High School. He named it for his friend and mentor John Cranch, an early settler in that area. In 1847, Ivey organized what would become the first store in town when he opened a mercantile establishment at Sixth Street and Market Place. That year also saw the founding of one of Troy's two schools: Jefferson Elementary School was built on land donated by members of the community in 1850; while Central High School was established in 1861 after nearby Purdy High School burned down. In 1865, Abraham Lincoln visited Troy to deliver remarks before a group of farmers near present-day Springfield on behalf of United States Senator James Buchanan during his visit to that city then known as Gentryville (present day Hannibal). A plaque marking Lincoln's appearance has been placed at central square in downtown Troy commemorating this event. Following Union victory over Confederate forces at First Bull Run Bridge on July 22nd 1863, General Ulysses S Grant ordered all military stores within four miles to be destroyed or looted so as to demoralize Confederate soldiers still lingering around Rather Hill plantation southeast of town; consequently many goods stored there were never collected again despite offers from local farmers since no one wanted their goods seized anyway - another example illustrating how times have changed since then! In 1868 Democrat John Sherman defeated Republican incumbent David Dixon for Congress from District 3A which included most of current day east bank north side including parts now inside DeKalb County; but soon after this victory some key citizens boycotted Sherman because they did not believe he could fairly represent them due to his ties with eastern bankers while living mainly along river banks - something which has hardly stopped ever since! During Reconstruction following America's return to national democracy following Civil War Reconstruction efforts failed miserably due largely to lackadaisical attitudes among many white northerners who had little interest whatsoever in helping black Americans gain equal rights regardless of race while wealthier southerners actually moved towards political integration - much like things are going now! One thing that DID succeed however was developing strong trade relationships with bothKansas City and St Louis which helped support local businesses during this time period! 4 years later – November 16th 1870 –Republican James Buchanan won re-election against Democratic challenger Andrew Johnson carried by about 60% among registered voters despite receiving only 38% amongst white males (of voting age) compared to 50% for Mr Johnson amongst all Northeasterners!! This shows just how important having good diplomacy skills can be when trying to get your own people interested & supportive within their own society... although unfortunately these days such skills are often hardTo come by!)

Troy, Missouri is a small town located in St. Francois County, Missouri. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. Troy was founded by Norwegian immigrants in 1837 and named for General John Quincy Adams. The community was platted in 1841 and the first store opened in 1843. A post office was first established in Troy in 1845 and the name changed to Troy on December 16, 1850. In 1865, Morris Hunt donated land to form the town square and the first school house was built that year. The townspeople organized a fire department in 1870 and built a new church in 1872. By 1901, there were nine businesses operating within the limits of Troy including three stores, two banks, one hotel, four churches and twelve schools. On July 24th of that year, Mrs. Caryl Atherton married Drury Ladd who became her husband's business partner until his death in 1912. Mr. Ladd donated $50000 to build what is now called "Ladd Center" which served as a high school from 1927 until it closed during World War II due to lack of enrollment after the war ended with V-E Day%. In 1945-1946 during World War II Pensioner's Homes were set up throughout America as an effort by President Franklin D Roosevelt to provide temporary housing for millions of American WWII veterans who had not been able to find suitable homes after their service ended hostilities overseas
Troy was founded by the Potawatomi in 1786. The town was abandoned in 1831 and is now a ghost town.
