The battle didn't go well at first. The Americans came up against fierce resistance from British troops who had been trained specifically for this type of engagement. However, after some hard fighting, the Americans eventually emerged victorious thanks to their timely deployment of artillery and reinforcements from other parts of Missouri. In addition, some local citizens also braveryously gave themselves up during this skirmish – recognition may have saved many lives Overall, this significant victory helped boost morale among American forces and help them win several key engagements throughout Confederation (the early years of our country).
